Beautiful Wat with a relaxing location on the Ping River. Easy to access Wat located off of a major road next to the Ping River. 1 block east of Chang Klan Rd. Parking is available. Wat Chai Mongkhon (Thai: āļ§āļąāļ”āļŠāļąāļĒāļĄāļ‡āļ„āļĨ, also spelled Chai Mongkol) is a Buddhist temple (wat) in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Nice temple by the side of the River. It dates from the 16thcentury. It is peaceful and one can sit by the side of the river. The viharn has a beautiful crocodile-like Naga. One outside wall is decorated with a well done bas-relief made from wood. There is also a pavilion with Chinese sculptures including a fat Buddha or monk. Entering the temple space you will find on the left side a shop where you can purchase all kinds of animals like birds, fish, frogs and crabs. By releasing them you can “gain mertit”. This may help you not to be born as a frog on the next life. At the river the monks have build special slides so that you can release the fish into the river. Sure a fun way...

The temple is located by the Ping River, on Charoen Prathet Road in the old city center. It is believed to have been built during the reign of King Tilokaraj (1441–1487), and serves an old Mon community.[1][2] Its architecture demonstrates Amarapura–Mandalay influence.[3 Boat cruises on the Ping leave from a dock at the riverside area of the complex. Sure a fun way to gain merit.
