AVOID THIS RESTAURANT: Me and my husband just dined here and after trying almost all of the Italian places in this area, we have to say that this is the worst Italian restaurant we have had in all of our travels in Asia.
We ordered a pizza and a pasta. The pizza felt like dried out play-dough. I make bread myself and the dough was similar to when you forget and leave the dough out in the air outside without covering it. The carbonara pasta sauce had the consistency of scrambled eggs.
If it was just the food not up to standards, then we might have been ok with it since we are in Thailand, but the next thing was the SERVICE CHARGE. We understand that some places charge extra service charges on top of the price. However, in this case they made it seem like an obligatory tip. If it is a service charge it should be clearly written on the receipt and how many percent it is. Instead we asked the waiter what is the percentage and she said 10%. We only had 200 baht cash so we put that down and she didn't even ask if we would like change and pocketed the cash. Somehow this looks very scammy. If it wasn't a scam, this restaurant needs to show more clarity on its pricing.
Please just list the exact price to be paid on the receipt. We have never felt obligated to tip in Thailand so this was very surprising and did not leave a nice impression at all.
Finally, adding to the scammy feeling of the place was the fact that they have a "picture-only" menu that lists no prices. After reading the reviews after eating here, I noticed that many people accidentally ordered a pasta that was 1500 baht from the picture menu.
We won't return to this restaurant since there are so many other amazing Italian restaurants nearby where they make fresh honest food. However, I really hope the owner of this place reads this review so others don't feel scammed after...
Read moreStaff were lovely, but the food was beyond terrible. We ordered garlic bread and two pasta dishes. Garlic Bread was literally a slice of bread with minced garlic on the top. I had the pasta brocolini which came with over cooked broccoli and no hint of the garlic or chilli as advertised. The other dish was the truffolino pasta, which granted did taste of truffle but that is its only redeeming feature. Not only was the meal a complete and utter disapointment, the bill came to shocking 2,300 baht as apparently the truffle pasta is worth an extortionate 1,500 baht!! Outrageous!! They offer you two menus, the full menu and the picture menu (with no prices) and as all of the other pasta dishes all came in a circa 300 Baht, we did not think to question it. After seeing the bill and requesting the menu, we did find the truffle option is a separate section of the menu under truffle specials! Not at all sure why it was not in the pasta section. Choosing this place was a last minute choice as we were running short on options and we could not have made a...
Read moreI’ve been living in Northern Thailand for a year and a half, and this is quite possibly the highest quality Farang food I’ve had. My wife and I stumbled upon this place and decided to give it a chance despite some negative Google reviews.
The overall experience was truly a 10/10. The pasta was incredible, the beverages were top notch, the service was both helpful and efficient, and the atmosphere was quintessentially Italian.
The walls are covered with photos of the most prestigious former customers, a list which impressively included multiple members of the Thai royal family, Angelina Jolie, and Danny Glover! My wife and I were very happy with our decision. Ignore the ridiculous negative comments on here, this place is fantastic. Visit Piccola Roma Palace, it’s the best Italian food...
