Saphan Pla Night Market is unlike any other night market in Hua Hin. Located at the far end of a working fishing pier, it offers a striking blend of local life and quiet seaside charm. As you walk past the fishing boats and approach the pier, you’ll notice a simple but atmospheric setup: rows of blue tents selling grilled meats, seafood, snacks, and drinks, and a line of bright yellow tables and chairs facing the open sea. It’s all very casual—plastic stools, handwritten signs, the scent of seafood grilling in the air—and yet the setting makes it feel special.
The market isn’t large, and it doesn’t try to be. There are no crowds pushing past souvenir stalls, no loud music, no commercial gloss. Instead, you’ll find families and couples sitting peacefully by the water, watching the sky turn pink over the horizon while nibbling on skewers or sipping cold drinks. Despite the market’s modest size, there’s enough variety in the food to make it worth the visit, and prices are noticeably lower than in the more tourist-centric parts of town.
It had rained just before we arrived, so the ground was still glistening, adding a reflective quality to the whole scene. The air smelled of sea salt and grilled squid. A few vendors chatted with each other, while others quietly scrolled on their phones between customers. It felt local in the best sense—not a market trying to impress outsiders, but one that simply exists for people to enjoy the evening.
This is a place you come to when you’re not in a rush. The mood is slow and serene, and the views—especially of the lights starting to flicker on at the Hilton in the distance—are lovely. If you’re after an authentic and peaceful end to your day, this is where...
Read moreI first came to Hua Hin in 1986. It was under developed and hardly any tourists.
The original night market was in the area around the pier.
A little while ago, I discovered that they had started a new night market in the pier.
So I took the family that very night.
The food that is available on the pier is amazing. We bought a pad Thai and a red curry and sat on the end of the pier with the sea breeze blowing on us. It was a memorable experience.
Since then we have been back a few times and really love the location and the choice of food available. So many things I have never had before in my 30 years of coming to Hua Hin.
Parking is complicated so if your driving, suggest you park anywhere near the main road and walk down to the pier.
As of yet, this night market is not as busy as the main night markets (there are now 5). The people at this one seem to be predominantly local, which explains the different food.
There is some western options.
Expect that this place will get very busy on the winter months.
Probably arrive about 6, watch the sun setting and eat some...
Read moreA good place to check out for a variety of foods—from crickets and caterpillars to grilled lobsters 🦞.
A very limited selection of drinks is available at the bar at the end of the pier—beers and Sprite, Coke—no wines! Sorry for being picky! BYOD 😆.
My suggestion is to go for sunset 🌇 at 6 p.m. onward. It opens at 5 p.m. At least you can try everything and enjoy the view.
P.S. They even have foot massage on the pier. Comfort is limited, but with the sound of the waves and wind, it's unusual. 200 THB/hour.
Enjoy. Beware of the day of the week; if you are using a stroller or wearing high heels 👠, it will be...
