River City Bangkok is a centre for art and antiques where art-lovers and collectors can explore galleries, see international exhibitions, meet artists, attend talks, watch films, bid at auctions, enjoy live music, or gain an understanding of Thailand’s burgeoning contemporary art scene.
On his trips to Europe in the 1980’s, the antique markets of Paris intrigued Mr. Adisorn Charanachitta, CEO of Italthai Group. How wonderful it would be, he imagined, to have an antique centre on the banks for the Chao Phraya River. And so, in 1985 River City Bangkok was born.
In the pursuing years antique dealers and collectors from around the world made passage to Bangkok to scour the antique dealer galleries on all four floors of River City Bangkok, every floor filled with treasures from the Greater Mekong region and beyond. Magnificent pieces from Cambodia, Burma, Laos and Vietnam but also Nepal and China. Artefacts from across the centuries: Khmer and Burmese, Qing and Ming, Ayutthaya, Sukhothai and Rattanakosin periods. Collectors and traders would also travel to bid on items going under the hammer in River City’s auction house, RCB Auctions. For 36 years, RCB Auctions has been taking consignments from family estates from across Thailand for auction. Some of these precious items have been brought back from collections in Europe and North America. Beautiful Chinese and Thai porcelain, silverware, sculptures, jewellery and fine art.
In the past five years, River City Bangkok has transformed itself into a centre for lifelong learning. Where art-lovers and collectors can explore the art and antique galleries, watch international films and documentaries, attend a talk and meet artists and experts, see an international exhibition or gain a better understanding of the contemporary art scene.
Around River City Bangkok, Bangkok’s vibrant Creative District has developed, bringing the next generation of creative thinkers and talent with it. In 2021, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic that turned off travel, RCB Auctions launched online bidding and is now reaching out to collectors and traders around the world. Powered by international auction platform, INVALUABLE, whether in New York, London or downtown Bangkok you can bid on antiques and Thai contemporary art from the comfort of your armchair, on your laptop or smartphone.
Times change, and so does Thailand’s premier centre for arts and antiques, remaining as a magnet for collectors, traders and art-lovers from Thailand and the world over, fulfilling the vision of its founder for generations to come.

Read moreReview of River City Bangkok River City Bangkok is a hidden gem along the scenic Chao Phraya River, offering a unique blend of art, culture, and modern convenience. Unlike typical shopping malls, this four-story complex stands out as a haven for art lovers and collectors, with an impressive array of galleries showcasing antiques, contemporary art, and international exhibitions. I visited in early 2025 and was captivated by the diverse collection of artworks, from local Thai pieces to global creations, with some galleries even offering interactive drawing activities that added a fun, hands-on element. The atmosphere is relaxed and air-conditioned, making it a perfect escape from Bangkok’s heat. The second floor, dedicated to art galleries, was a highlight, though I recommend checking their website for current exhibitions as they rotate frequently. I was particularly impressed by the unique antique shops selling everything from bronze sculptures to Thai crafts—perfect for finding distinctive souvenirs. Beyond art, River City boasts a vibrant dining scene. The waterfront promenade is lined with restaurants offering stunning river views, and I enjoyed a delightful lunch at RIVER SIT, where the international menu (think pasta, steak, and dim sum) was both delicious and beautifully presented, though slightly pricey due to the prime location. The service was attentive, and the ambiance was enhanced by the serene river backdrop. Accessibility is a breeze, with options to arrive by boat, train, or motorcycle taxi. The proximity to ICONSIAM (just across the river) and the convenient ferry service make it an easy stop during a day of exploring. My only minor critique is that some exhibitions may not always align with every visitor’s taste, so it’s worth checking the schedule beforehand. Overall, River City Bangkok is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates art, culture, or simply wants a sophisticated riverside experience. I’d rate it 4.5 out of 5 highly recommended for a unique and enriching...
Read moreRiver City Bangkok is a vibrant destination, offering a unique blend of art, culture, and leisure. One of the coolest places to chill, it lets you explore diverse art collections—from contemporary galleries to antique pianos and Persian carpets—while enjoying the convenience of boat access from the Chao Phraya River. Located directly opposite Icon Siam, it provides a scenic and relaxing arrival with stunning river and cityscape views as your backdrop.
Beyond its galleries, River City Bangkok also hosts Heavenly Voice Studio and a dedicated Harp Studio, making it a hub for musicians and music lovers. When hunger or caffeine cravings strike, you’ll find several restaurants and cafés on-site—including a Starbucks—so you can refuel without leaving the premises.
Throughout the year, River City Bangkok hosts a wide variety of exhibitions—from contemporary and modern art to cultural showcases—keeping the space dynamic and exciting with something new to discover every visit. I had the opportunity to perform in the Antique Piano and Persian Carpets exhibition, which was a memorable experience surrounded by rare instruments and stunning decor.
For those driving in, River City Bangkok offers a 24‑hour car park with security guards, accessed via Charoenkrung 24 and 30. The facility accommodates up to 500 cars and provides direct entry to all floors of the complex, plus ample motorcycle parking.
One thing that stands out is the background music played throughout the venue. River City Bangkok might be the only place I’ve ever been to that plays classical music—like Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor, Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, or Chopin’s Piano Concerto—as ambient music, adding a refined and artistic touch to the entire atmosphere.
Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a musician, or simply looking to unwind, River City Bangkok delivers a seamless blend of culture, convenience,...
