I recently had the pleasure of visiting Cağaloğlu Hamamı in Istanbul, a historic Turkish hammam dating back to 1741. Overall, it was a great experience, but there were a few aspects that could have been improved. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by the staff, and the atmosphere was enhanced by traditional music playing in the background. We had made reservations and opted for the tip-to-toe package, which offered extra massage time. The hammam’s historical charm was evident, and you could truly feel the weight of its history. However, there was a noticeable lack of guidance at the beginning of the experience. It would have been beneficial if there had been a brief introduction to what to expect during the session. This omission made the initial stages a bit uncomfortable, as we had to figure things out on our own. One notable oversight was the absence of slippers or slides in the changing rooms. Walking barefoot and descending stairs that others had used with their shoes on felt awkward until we asked for slides, which were promptly provided. Once inside the hammam, we were instructed to sit in a sauna-like room for what turned out to be a longer duration than expected. It became quite humid and challenging to breathe, and no one checked on us during this time. After what felt like an extended wait, the attendants came to escort us individually for the wash and massage. While the experience was excellent and the attendants were gentle, it may feel uncomfortable for some, as you are essentially nude with other patrons, and they do touch you extensively during the process. At the end of the session, we were offered tea and delights, which was a lovely touch. However, I left to have tea with my fiancé in the common entry area. In conclusion, Cağaloğlu Hamamı provides an authentic Turkish hammam experience with its historical ambiance. I would highly recommend it. Nevertheless, I strongly recommend that the front desk implement an introductory discussion at the beginning to make guests feel more at ease, as not everyone may be familiar with hammam customs and procedures. This addition would greatly enhance the overall experience.

Exceptional Hamam Experience in Istanbul I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the luxury hamam recomnended By our tour guide. We chose another one at first for the ranking but they catered more Russians customers I feel like. At Cagaloglu, it truly exceeded all our expectations. From the moment I made contact to inquire about their services with hundred of questions, I was met with unparalleled professionalism and warmth. The reception upon arrival was nothing short of exemplary, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure my comfort and satisfaction. One aspect that particularly stood out was their commitment to punctuality. My service schedule was meticulously planned and adhered to, allowing for a seamless and stress-free experience. Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful gesture of a little gift upon arrival, which added an extra touch of elegance to the overall experience. What truly sets this place apart, however, is their unwavering attention to detail and dedication to providing a high-level of service. Private room is given and you will find all you need like in a five star hotel. All is clean and beautiful! Every aspect of my visit was carefully curated to ensure that I felt pampered and indulged throughout. From the expertly executed treatments to the personalized care and attention, I left feeling rejuvenated and thoroughly impressed. In summary, my experience at Cagaloglu in Istanbul was nothing short of exceptional. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a luxurious and memorable spa experience in a breathtaking historical place. Please book 3-4 days in advance if you need a specific package or time schedule to book. This place is busy but once there, you will understand why.

It is pricy, but I am happy that I have experienced it. I mainly went there to see the the architecture of the building which is wonderful. I had no clue how a Hammam works, so this is what expects you: 1. You get your own room with a key. Very convenient! You can put all your clothes, bags, jellery and belongings in it and you lock it. The key is always with you. Very safe! You change into a very tiny slip you are given a towel to wrap yourself. They also give you a small bottle of water. 2. Steam Bath (humid, warm, nice) 3. Bubble foam massage. I had no clue what to expect. They showered me /splashed myself with water with a bowl, then I layed down at the warm hammam stone in the middle of the room. You are not alone. There are other 4-5 woman! Firstly, they scrubbed me and then they did the bubble foam Massage. It was nice, but I do still prefer thai massages. Its very quickly and they dont stay at one area or part for a longer time. After the massage they washed my hair! This was a bit strange but when you are able to let lose control you can enjoy it. Be aware they splash your face with water the whole time. Actually I felt like being a kid who got bathed by my mother. You can decide yourself if you like this feeling or not. 4.Afterwards you have time to sit down, relax, drink tea, eat nuts and turkish delight. Dont forget to tip the ladies! In your cabin there are envelopes you can hand in at the front desk but I prefer giving the tip to the lady in person. Suzan was my massageur and she is a very friendly and kind lady. Thank you, Suzan! 🫶

Having been to a couple of hamams (the other one lower down in rating, but cheaper), I'd have to say that Cagaloglu is absolutely fantastic, now having had the comparison. I went with the experience one above basic, which gives a longee foam bath/massage (no additional service on too of that). For 70€, it was absolutely worth the price of admission! Beautiful setting, seeing the marble interior and the 300 year old domes inside. The service was friendly and welcoming. Nazmi was my attendant, and he spoke good English and was friendly. He guided me through the process, and even added little warnings about a step here and there. You first get changed into a towel, then led into the hamam. Inside is *beautiful* and clean, and the old stone dome is magnificent. I was led into a smaller alcove for hot room (like a sauna), then guided to the main marble circular slab in the centre after for the scrub. Then, rinsed, then the foam bath/massage. Great pressure by Nazmi! Then a wash and head massage, also great. Then after it's finished, they serve Ottoman sherbet, tea, and Turkish delight. Very relaxing and soothing experience. Fantastic experience! (The other hamam I went to is older still, and even at 60€ which includes an additional oil massage, I still would rather Cagaloglu at 70€ and no additional massage!)

I was dragged here and it was an experience. Note: I’m told the experience for woman is different (“princess-like”). The experience starts with a room when I strip down to nothing but a towel. I am taken to a sauna where I ponder if I should have resisted my wife’s idea harder. After what feels like an eternity (15 mins), I’m then taken to a flat marble surface where the real fun begins. A body scrub begins and I am wondering if I’ve ever been cleaner in my life. The thought quickly goes away as I’m mercilessly beaten (what others would refer to as a “massage”). Holding on to dear life to not laugh or cry out, I somehow make it through without embarrassingly asking for mercy. I’m then rinsed with alternating buckets of hot or cold water (a fun game to guess) and dried off like a newborn before I’m placed in a dark room to reflect on everything that’s happened. I’m bribed with treats after reclothed and the experience is complete. Overall, I would probably do it again if dragged on a future trip. The entire building looks historically important and the service is very nice. I did feel refreshed afterwards and felt like I accomplished something by making it through without complaining. Erdal, my attendant, was a true bro and Nadire, my wife’s attendant was amazing.

I came here 20 years ago and enjoyed my first hammam experience. I am once again in Istanbul, and I wanted to treat myself with some self care. The experience was lovely and amazing once again. In fact, I thought this visit was even better than my first visit. It was relaxing, sitting in the warm spa room and chatting with other women. Then, one by one, our attendants came and took us each by the hand. Imagine a complete body exfoliating scrub, coupled with a massage, I added on the full face and body mask and enjoyed just sitting peacefully and meditating. I was then taken and covered with bubbles and hair and body washed and more massage. Then, I was walked over and thoroughly rinsed and wrapped in dry towels. I was then taken into the lovely room you see in the photo and given a small sip of hibiscus tea, turkish tea and some turkish delights. I just soaked in the beautiful surroundings, the sound of the water fountain at the center of the room and the jasmine aroma therapy. Nothing was rushed, and eventually I went to my small assigned room and took my time getting dressed and blow drying my hair. I left feeling refreshed! Thank you to Melek, you were amazing!
