Topkapı Sarayı Harem Dairesi — Attraction in Fatih

Note: The Palace and the Harem must be visited on the same day. The Museum pass will not let you visit them on separate days. The website for the museum pass can be misleading as it states that it covers Topkapı, Aya Irina, and the Harem, but only Aya Irina can be visited on a separate day. I found this out the hard way.

I went with a Turkish friend of mine to Topapki and by the time we got to the Harem, it was closed. We returned two days later and I was told I would have to buy another ticket if I wanted to see the Harem, despite my having bought a museum pass, and despite the fact that it was closed by the time we wanted to see it. They said if I had come the next day, they might have accommodated me, but the fact that I came two days later made it impossible. No amount of explanation on my part made them change their minds.

It was only after my Turkish friend pleaded my case to a supervising security guard (the first one was quite rude to both of us), and after a manager was contacted, they relented and let me in. (And she fortunately took a picture of the Harem closed that day.) It was a very unpleasant experience, and I want to inform others so it doesn't happen to them.

Long story short, the museum pass only allows ONE ENTRY per site, and Topapki and the Harem are considered together to be one site. If the Harem is closed, make sure to tell a security guard that day what happened and make sure you come the following day to see it -- otherwise you'll be out of luck.

Another side note: I went in July, and it is VERY crowded and VERY hot inside....

Topkapı Sarayı avlusundan ayrıca bilet ücreti ödenerek giriş yapılabiliyor. İç içe geçmiş avlular ve odalardan oluşan taş ve tuğlalardan yapılmış kubbelere sahip , duvarları çinilerle süslenmiş büyük bir mekan. Zemindeki delikler eskiden taş zemin üstünde ahşap veya farklı bir malzemenin bulunup bulunmadığı sorusunu getirdi aklımıza. Duvarlarda Osmanlı Dönemini yansıtan çiniler yanında Avrupa’dan getirtilmiş farklı üslubta çini karolar da vardı. Ben çok beğenmedim, her zaman için klasik mavi beyaz karolar benim favorimdir. Valide Sultan ve Hünkar hamamlarında altın musluklar vardı, fotoğraflarını çekmiş olmalıyım, fakat bunlar da benim için gereksiz masraf olarak geldiğinden ilgimi çekmedi, çok zengin olsam bile altın bir musluk veya hamam tasını tercih etmezdim. Harem Dairesi olduğu için insanın aklına yatak odası geliyor haklı olarak, sofayı , mutfağı gördük ama yatak odası yoktu. Valide Sultan ın Yatak Odası takımını, yorganlarını, şiltesini, duvar halılarını çok merak ettim doğrusu. Harem Dairesi çok kuru geldi bana. Sadece cariyelerin ve hanımların yaşadığı belki de hapsedildiği soğuk taş yapı. Büyük avluda neredeyse iki olimpik yüzme havuzu büyüklüğünde devasa bir havuz vardı. O zamanlarda içinin sütle doldurulduğunu anlatmıştı bir rehber bize, bundan yaklaşık 30 sene önce. Biz gezdiğimizde havuzun zemini kupkuruydu, malum süt banyosu yapacak kimsecikler yok oralarda. Ben iki tane kumru yavrusu gördüm bir yere tünemiş olan, onlar ne yapsınlar süt banyosunu? Yetkililerin yerinde olsaydım süt görünümlü bir sıvı ile doldururdum devasa koca havuzu ve etrafa mis gibi sabun kokan buharlar fışkırtırırdım. O günkü atmosferi yaşatmak isterdim. Saksılar içinde yemyeşil kocaman yapraklı bitkilerle donatırdım etrafı, ziyarete gelenlerin ağzı açık kalsın isterdim.Hatta mutfakta safranlı pilav pişirir ve ikram ederdim kendi kültürümüzü tanıtmak için. Kuru kuru müze gezmek insanın tüm enerjisini alıyor zaten, gerçekten ölü toprağı serpilmiş gibiydi Harem Dairesi, içim sızladı. Hiç olmazsa hopörlörlerden ney sesi duyarak yad edebilseydik büyüklerimizi. Bu kadar da kuru kuruya müze gezilmez ki canım.😌Kültür Bakanlığımıza tanıyanlar iletsinler lütfen. Çıkışta bir köşede o dönemde giyilmiş olan giysiler, kaftanlar,pelerinler, başlıklar, bohçalar sergilenebilir, mutlaka Topkapı Sarayı içinde vardır da, burada da olsa atmosferine renk katılırdı biraz olsun. Harem Dairesi’ni gezdim ama gizemli dünyası hakkında çok az fikir sahibi olabildim. Sanki mahrem yerlerimiz gözükmesin istenirmiş gibi gizlenmişti çoğu şey. Bunun ne kadar doğru olduğunu tartışmaya...
