Our visit was with our grandchildren aged 4 and 2yrs to use the soft play centre. The rock climbing centre was impressive and groups appeared to be having fun and some being competitive. I would have given 5 stars but with the soft play centre being restricted to what I believe to be under 5years and a seperate within enclosed area for babies. Whilst my two grandchildren were playing a group of about 10 children mainly boys who had been in the rock climbing centre and aged I would estimate between 8 to 10 years entered the soft play centre and just ran wild shouting and screaming . During this period my granddaughter was knocked down and as she was sitting crying was then hit on the head by one of the swinging piece of equipment. Having fetched her and the grandson out we had to sit and wait for about 15 minutes whilst these other children continued with their antics of running wildly chasing around through all parts of the soft play centre. Finally their parents or guardians decided to leave and peace was restored. During all this time there was no supervision of the soft play centre. My grandchildren then went back into the soft play and had a great time being joined by children of same age and playing together. We regularly visit this soft play centre and this is the first time this type of behaviour has been experienced. Perhaps the owners may look at more imposing signage on the age limits for entering the soft play and for more supervision when such groups are using the premises .There is another soft play area in Oldbury that we also use and there when paying to enter that part of the premises you have to provide the childs name and age. There is supervision and a strict prohibition on taking of...
Read moreDefinitely Recommend for a great time. We went to ROCKUP for a birthday party with 7 x 6&7 year olds, some SEN and 2 slightly older kids.
Booking: The booking part online was simple, but not a lot of info as to what was included in the different options for birthday parties. The communication following via customer services email was like pulling teeth, that was UNTIL we spoke to Gavin via phone, who was extremely helpful and answered every concern with a friendly demeanor.
When we arrived and booked in, All other staff were friendly but one member appeared a little stressed, we were the last party of a what must have been a busy Friday.
Safety: Safety briefing was easily understood by adults, but could do with a more child friendly version for little ones like ours. However there were more than enough staff in the arena to help the kids attach and detach from the safety equipment, we couldn't fault the safety within the arena, even for our SEN kids.
Busy -ness In-between parties, meant we had the arena to ourselves for a good 20mins, even then when others arrived there were only about 4 other people in there, it felt almost exclusive on a Friday evening. Not too busy at that time.
Time restraint: Our kids took a lot of time to do the leap of faith, wavering at the top, as this was the first time any of them had been climbing. One staff although appeared stressed by the time restraint, all were professional and calm in their approach to coaxing the children off the platform which meant the kids had a great time and so too did the adults. It is a great way for kids to let of steam after a day at School, they were really happy to get to the top of the climb walls and press the buttons.
Party room: The party room was immaculate, the kids loved the food and Gavin was on hand at all times, explaining the routine from start to finish and made time for any query we had. Kudos to Gavin who helped make our experience fabulous! Our kids even loved Gavin and created a new handshake!!
We will definitely be booking again, and...
Read moreRock Up is a hidden gem. I tried this place last night on a Thursday and it was nice and quiet, perfect for a small group outing. The walls were all so different that after you've climbed one, the next feels like a completely different experience. As opposed to other rock climbing places, where the walls are all the same and you feel you're going up the same one every time, Rock Up offers more than enough for the £12 I paid the hour's session. Your forearms get pretty tired and as someone who perspires from her hands, I needed short breaks in between walls, but you can definitely climb all of them within the time. I managed 18 of them because I wasn't too bothered about the last 2. You can climb them in any order you like. The most interesting ones are the ropes one (beware, rope burn!), the ice climb where you hold onto this pick-axes and put them in the holes as you climb, Space Invaders, the 'dog bowls' one, the Beanstalk one, the pipes one, the 'Spider Climb' (like Ninja Warrior), the timed climb, and the very difficult rotating one. You may bruise yourself up any one of these so beware, you need a little fitness to be able to do this. It's great fun. The one negative comment I have to make is that the instruction was very unclear. To get down, after pressing the button, or giving up climbing the wall, grab the blue part of the rope, do a squat position and then abseil down. There isn't the sudden drop, it only does let you down slowly, something I was anxious about! A slight alteration for the green steps one: grab the blue part, then after you start going down, keep your arms out around you to prevent from hitting the tall cylinder shapes as it lowers you down. Overall, I had fun and this activity really gets your adrenaline pumping! For a good lower arm workout and something new, I'd recommend trying it...
