First time going and it is a really nice place to visit. They have a number of a amusements, rental beach chairs, beach shop providing food, drink and beach toys etc. I must mention there are donkey rides, 🐎 they are well looked after and the lady and her daughter obviously love their donkeys. The donkeys themselves have very good temperaments and actively look to be petted. ❤ There are a few other shops besides the ones mentioned which every tourist would want. There is a bus service to the beach from near the train station - which is NOT clearly enough advertised, though it is only a short walk from the train station to the beach which takes a fully able person about 14-16 minutes to walk. 🚶♀️ There are some really good shops at the main street shopping centre on the way to the beach so watch out for getting carried away and not actually making it to the beach because of the variety of shops. 😊 There are also a few different ways to get down to the beach, bus from town obviously, walk down the cliff face path or there are several lifts available. These lifts were also NOT clearly advertised or marked out for people with mobility issues (even online) which was upsetting and painful for some of us. There is a open air bus service going from bay to bay which is lovely. The beach and surrounding area is one of the cleanest I've ever seen and the shop owners and staff are friendly and helpful everywhere you go. Overall Super beach and area. We are looking forward to going again...
Read moreThis was my first extended stay in Scarborough and the beach is beautiful. They have a lot of food on offer such as the usual fish and chips (plenty to choose from), ice cream, fresh donuts and souvenir stores. We came midweek and although it was extremely hot it wasn't as busy as you would expect a tourist beach town to be which was great. I imagine it's different during the weekend or school holidays. There was plenty of space on the beach. The view is lovely and the beach is very clean. There is a north and south bay, the north bay is more quiet in way of shops and things there isn't much but the south bay is the more touristic of the two but with more to do. The walk from one to the other is very peaceful and scenic with nice views of the cliff and obviously the sea. At night the south bay was very quiet and we enjoyed a walk in the sand and the sound of the waves. As you would imagine there are a lot of seagulls so you need to be careful with food and avoiding "bird waste" ! I was unfortunate on this trip! The amusements are a lot of fun, I would recommend Olympia leisure. They have an enormous selection of - not just games and slots but also bowling, pool, darts and cheap food. For ice cream I would recommend scoop de ville, they had a lot of nice flavours which set it apart from big standard whippy. For fish and chips, the famous fish pan has good prices and huge portions. Overall a great experience which I...
