So, yet again I'm raving about Woodend Gallery and it's excellent and friendly staff! Saturday 20Sep I was at the special art event with a range of arty activities, organised by Hannah Sprague and colleagues. The chance to sit and chat with a range of people, trying out varying art forms was fab and such a nice atmosphere. Jack Robertson played guitar and harmonica later, in his customary and laid-back style. Such talent 👏 He's added great new songs 🎵 to his extensive repertoire and even invited Hannah and I to sing with him. How lucky were we! The couple that sang&played next were very skilled but also hilarious, with some of their songs. Wow! To top all this, Luisa on Reception is always so helpful and smiley, but last Thursday excelled herself. What a star! She helped me when the person I was due to meet, from another company, didn't turn up for the appointment! Luisa rang them in the building and at Head Office. She assisted me in proving that I did have a rendezvous and was so patient and kind when I was rightly fed up! Thanks Luisa for all of the above and also Hannah for her work at the gallery and all the great events she organises for schools, colleges and the public and also for always being so quietly welcoming! Apologies H, if I've spelled your name wrong! Woodend is a brilliant place to see art and to be part of it. Maggie, a very grateful visitor! Sep 25 That's me with a mushroom 🍄 on my head! Why...
Read moreGallery seems to be poorly managed. A shadow of what it used to be.
About 3 years ago there was a free creative space. Educational classes and some good community exhibitions that may have moved elsewhere.
Now they have a few outlandish limited interest exhibitions given over to single artists who are 'in' with the management.
The coffee shop used to have paperbacks to read, now you feel you can't sit there unless you spend a fiver at least.
I reported the flashing lights in the toilets but nothing was done.
Reception too busy peering into their computer screens to notice anything much.
The whole place needs a rethink.
I waa surprised how many businesses are upstairs including specsavers...
Read moreLovely, grand old building to visit with very pleasant, welcoming staff. Just along from Scarborough's main art gallery near the handsome crescent. It has a toilet and a café, but just one large room on the ground floor for exhibition space. I think there was a smaller room also, which was closed off when I visited. Not an awful lot of art to look at but still worth a visit. Lofty, spacious and most pleasant, peaceful café which served a great and tasty vegan sausage and cheese roll....
