A jarring experience registering for a birth. It is highly inappropriate for the registrar to offer their opinion about the name chosen for a child. Was it expected that one would change it on the spot because they happen to think there may be confusion for people, like them, with rigid gender normative views of the world? It’s an administration role for the arm of bureaucracy that prejudices married couples over the unmarried and it is this myopia that is reflected in the antiquated conservatism of the individuals hired for the role: the sense of self-importance was added by the individual serving.
