Cuckoos Coffee Bar — Restaurant in England

It's under new management now but still has the same friendly atmosphere. On my last visit one of the ladies was collecting cups and plates as I entered. She greeted me and noticed I was freezing, having just got off my motorbike. She asked if I would like to sit next to the heater. Not only was that unusuly observant but very considerate too. That's what I mean by friendly, they treat me like a friend not just money in the till. What other coffee shop shows you that kind of treatment. It's a bright and cheerful room with a good selection of food and drink, at very reasonable prices. On all of my visits there has been soft pleasant background music and a nice relaxing atmosphere. The toilets are upstairs and alas unless you can clime stairs not really suitable for invalid access. But they are immaculately clean and separate male and female cubicles. Booked Cuckoo's for afternoon tea whilst on holiday. Booked here for afternoon tea for three of us. Was greeted by the very nice lady owner and was welcomed in, we had booked but turned up a hour early and was still able to get in. The coffee bar was very clean and tidy and a lovely looking place. We all had a milkshake to start with, which was a proper milkshake made the right was they were very good. The afternoon tea turned up very quickly and was wonderfully presented. The sandwiches were very nice and fresh and the scones with jam and cream were perfectly made and still warm. The cakes were very nice, we could not finish them all and they were boxed for us to takeaway. Overall the whole experience was amazing from the fresh food and lovely staff. Really not what it once was. Unsure if it has changed hands but the quality of the food was nothing like it used to be. Staff were friendly enough but didn’t get the order correct despite it being reconfirmed and some of the food was inedible. You know when the mushrooms have gone a bit soft but you cook them anyway and then regret it? I don’t expect to pay for a breakfast and get served old mushrooms. We’ve been coming here for years now and this is the 2nd time recently it’s been below par. I hate to leave a negative review but it’s just dropped in quality so much and needs to up its game and perhaps move with the times. A veggie sausage wouldn’t be so difficult would it?
