Absolutely hands down worst experience of 2 peoples lives. My girlfriend started to feel faint because of the heat, so I tried to get some water for her as they had been handing it out throughout the show. Got turned away by the lady who had been informed the severity of the situation, telling us we had to trek to the other side of the large room to get a little glass of water. So i took my girlfriends hand who looked like she was about to keel over at any second and started walking towards the bar. Where we were met with an entitled, unreasonable security guard dressed in all black with almost no uniform on apart from a tiny square on his arm to let people know he was staff (bear in mind its a dark room). Me and my partner are not drinkers, don’t take drugs just wanted to enjoy the good music however this member of ‘staff’ clearly just wanted to abuse his power. He shoved into me with such unnecessary force with my girlfriend standing right behind me, so i did what anyone would do and didn’t allow him to move me into her which most likely would have resulted with her on the floor . He then started giving me abuse about not letting him push me out of his way, which i informed him why. He simply did not listen to me telling him multiple times about my girlfriend being on the brink of passing out. All this time not getting any closer to getting a drink of water. Then when my girlfriend actually did pass out and was laying on the floor, you would think he’d notice his error but no, he doubled down and started man handling me as if i had done something wrong. I was utterly shocked and couldn’t understand what was going on. So being extremely worried about her i got the man off me and tried to get to my girlfriend to see if she was ok. The man carried on trying to detain me for god knows why, this time with the help of 2 extra people. When i was escorted out, I was met with more reasonable workers who were extremely apologetic for their colleagues idiotic behaviour, after i explained the situation exactly like i did to the man who started the ordeal. To make matters even worse, i then reached out to 02academy through an email, tried calling them multiple times but clearly they don’t care about their customers once they have...

I always love this venue for music gigs. It's beautiful inside. Last night I attended with my mum for Paul Young and Go West gig. My mum has mobility issues so after buying tickets I contacted the venue regarding access. Jordyn answered swiftly and confirmed what we needed to do to avoid my mum having to queue as she can't stand for long. At venue all staff were so professional and friendly. From the gent managing the queue who walked us to the door and introduced us to the door staff managing the access list. From there on in, every single member of staff ensured my mum got into the venue safely and was comfortable walking to her seat. At half time she preferred to sit at back of venue on her seated walker and again several staff stopped to make sure she was comfortable and even offered alternative seats. We left a little early to avoid the crowds and Robert from door security walked with her down the few stairs and even waited with her outside the door to allow me to collect the car from Bridge street underground and bring it round. My mum and myself were so impressed with all the staff. They really made what was already a great night all the more enjoyable. I was very impressed by the professionalism and friendliness...

What a waste of a gig, Corey Taylor couldn't be heard at all over the noise from his band mates. No sign to improve this throughout the gig either. Very very poor!! Corey's vocals could barely be heard- too high on the drum and strings (2 guitars and 1 bass) meaning it was a wall of noise thrown at us. Other gigs aren't as bad if you youtube them, however it seems to be a common occurance for this venue. Drinks- poor selection. If i ask for a jack daniels and coke, i dont expect to be given a pepsi (here if you have allergies to sweetners you need to bring your own drinks). No staff member to let me know it's Pepsi, just asked for the cash. Tried a pint of san miguel and it was as flat as a pancake. Lastly, as a woman the toilet options were next to the stage (which was crammed as gig was sold out)/downstairs- but tickets being on the phone meant every time women needed to pee, we had to show attendants ticket to get back into main hall. That or get someone to open the accessable toilet opposite the bar. Totally unnecessary when there's staff scanning tickets before entering the building. Really disappointing for the cash, won't be back and won't recommend this venue...

Came to see the mighty Blackberry Smoke again after three years and twice cancelled gigs I recently and hopefully temporary have some mobility issues so after looking on the website I saw they had early access for people in my situation I emailed and asked how this worked and got a very prompt reply from Jodie asked me for my name and added my wife and I onto the early access list We arrived and spoke to the very helpful security staff outside and they told us we would be allowed to go in after the wheelchair users Another security person came out checked our name on the list and after a quick search we were in and escorted upstairs (very slowly) to the balcony seats where we were told we could ,if we wanted ,we could sit on any of the reserved seats at the ends of the isles which we did. Everyone of the staff we met inside asked us if there was anything they could do for us and if we did need anything just to ask After being a bit worried about getting in a getting a seat as I can’t stand for long at the moment the venue and everyone of the staff were absolutely immense Plus Blackberry Smoke smashed in Thanks Iain

The gig I went to was great but in this review I want to focus on the Academy. As a Virgin Media customer I joined the special O2 access line and got in unchallenged, which I was entitled to do, but worried about. It was starting to rain as I entered but nowhere outside today queue undercover. I was security frisked on the way in, I think pretty much everyone was, without bother. A hard left once inside took me to steep and narrow steps to the balcony. Even with my poor knees, it wasn't to steep, but the climb would have been possible for me a few years ago. The narrowness was only a problem, a small one, at the end of the gig when people wanted down to get out and others wanted up to the coast room. I was impressed by the balcony area. Clean, comfortable and with good seats. I wasn't expecting much but this was akin to a full on theatre experience. Very good! As was my view. There's pub access directly from the balcony by going through the middle. I didn't venture down to the standing area but that's where the close to the stage action is!

If I could give it 0 stars I would. We were sold a row in the aisle so were disturbed by every single person going to the toilet, getting drinks and security randomly wandering about all night. Just to add to the fun, the “seats” were not real seats so both extremely uncomfortable and stank of piss. But at least we were distracted by the racket of bar staff having a carry on in the bar during the performance. I asked a steward for a manager’s email address and he refused. Such a shame — had been looking forward to the show for ages but the experience was completely ruined by the O2 venue and staff. ETA: after writing this I spoke to a manager who was at least apologetic and good about the rotten experience we had. However, the venue is absolutely at it selling that row without labelling clearly it’s not a real row — do not book H in the balcony!
