Me and my partner travel around the uk doing escape rooms that’s our thing. We came to Leeds on an absolute whim and we did abducted the hardcore version. We was told that we may get a few bumps and slight scratch or bruise , That there was a lot of jump scares . Before we even entered the main room after being blindfolded and hands tied my partner was put in a chokehold and dragged backward and punched in the liver area, his head was smacked against the back of the wall and my partner said to the man you better not do it that hard to her and then he did and then he everything he did to him to me to a T. He then pinched my side really hard and slapped my forehead , I get it. I get it’s suppose to be scary , frightening. Few jump scars few ouchies. The room itself was decent we escaped. For the first 25 minutes we stood in the corner not even moving or doing anything for that matter just taking in what had just happened. We have signed waivers at all the rooms we have done. There’s one thing saying it be a few small stubs here and there another thing pretty much being grabbed harmed and feeling quite violated. It just wasn’t on - during I radioed to the female told her we don’t want him back it and shut it down but continued our game. Had I of known I would be punched aggressively used as a punchbag I wouldn’t have done it. We finished the room with 3 mins to spare wasn’t offered a photo or anything. Afterwards spoke to a female worker and she said sorry. ( and later to be told by fellow people on facebook who were shocked what had happened to us that it was heavy and that we should of complained / contacted bosses etc. ).

Great Escape Room experience! To start: I've been to a number of different locations (both in the US and UK), and this is the first time I've seen a small bar in the waiting area. It was wonderful, and the drinks + room package was wonderful and fun. Also big kudos to the spooky vibe! We had made a booking for 2, despite the room being for 4 people, and I was very pleased to see they did not fill the extra 2 spaces and instead considered the room booked. (I've been to one in the US that filled empty spaces, and it is not fun to play with strangers). The room itself was fun, the right size, right difficulty, etc. Only had to ask for help once. Catherine, the host, seemed to be managing the place by herself! (and doing a fantastic job of it). This was fine, as it was mid day on a weekday, and it was not very busy. Despite this, she was professional, friendly, and offered us a great experience. Even asked us what playstyle we preferred (ie: how many hints and so on). Overall, a great time. I will definitely be coming back, especially for Halloween as many of the rooms are rather spooky! Picture in review is of the lobby bar, not the puzzle room.

I've done a number of escape rooms, and this one is very well run. The rooms are well themed and I enjoyed the abducted one a lot - the interaction and puzzle was excellent (although not for the faint-hearted!). This is a large venue with a number of rooms, including a head to head team challenge one, so there is a good range. The bar is very good, with good drinks and reasonable food (the pizza wasn't amazing, but good enough, especially as it was free with the group game). Would definitely recommend and look forward to coming back to do the rooms I haven't tried.

TRAUMATIZED AND STILL RECOVERING - PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING ⚠️

0/5 Stars - Deeply Concerning Experience

As someone currently in therapy partly due to an experience at The Great Escape Game's "Abducted" room, I feel morally obligated to share my story. What was meant to be a fun date night with my boyfriend turned into something that still haunts me years later.

Without any prior warning or consent forms, we were subjected to extremely physical interactions that I'm still processing in therapy. I won't go into graphic detail to avoid triggering others, but imagine having your personal space and bodily autonomy completely violated without any warning or chance to opt out. No waivers were presented, no disclaimers were given - nothing.

The most disturbing part? When my boyfriend tried to address this with the company in 2021, they completely ignored his message. Now, years later, when we finally worked up the courage to contact them again (after I started therapy and realized how much this experience had affected me), their response was essentially "too late, too bad." They've since removed this extreme element from their room - which speaks volumes about its appropriateness - yet refuse to acknowledge any responsibility for past customers' trauma.

For context about me: I've done numerous escape rooms before and since. I'm not easily rattled. But what happened here crossed so many lines that I'm still working through it with my therapist. The complete disregard for customer welfare and consent is shocking.

🚩 Major Concerns: No informed consent Extreme physical contact without warning Dismissive attitude toward mental health Zero accountability for past actions Potential safety violations Ignored legitimate complaints

To anyone considering this venue: Please, please do your research. There are plenty of excellent escape rooms that respect their customers' boundaries and safety. This isn't one of them.

To the management: Your dismissive response to genuine trauma is almost as concerning as the original experience. The fact that you've removed this element proves you know it was wrong, yet you won't take responsibility for those you've harmed.

I'm sharing this not out of spite, but out of genuine concern for others' wellbeing. I wish someone had warned me before I went.

Note: Currently seeking therapy and legal advice regarding this incident. If anyone else has had a similar experience, you're not alone.

Edit: Currently in therapy and working through this trauma. Please take this review seriously - your mental...

Completely disappointing and RUDE experience. Underworld as a game is underwhelming - no imagination going into the clues. The crawl space in the game is ridiculously small and physically painful - crawling on top of plastic bones to get through a hole that an adult’s shoulders only just fit through… All of the locks and clues were incredibly easy to solve, and didn’t present the theme well. We found the “hidden treasure” and had to ask what we were supposed to do with it after the game had ended. The answer was, “oh nothing, that’s just the ‘object of power’ you had to find”… but it had no use or purpose in the story? Okkaaay…

To top it off, they offer “Sunday Funday” on their website. Essentially a free drink. When we asked, the staff said we “should have paid £5 extra each to get that”. We challenged this based on website wording, and the manager then allowed us to have the free drinks. My friend and I chose Prosecco, advertised as a ‘mini bottle’ on the menu. It was flat, so we gave it back. We were told “this cannot possibly be flat as it was out of a new bottle” and that we could only have one of the drinks replaced, as only one was out of a pre-opened bottle. I don’t know how true the “new bottle” part was, but both glasses were flat and foul. Possibly because the prosecco was poured firstly into a metal measuring cup and then into a small wine glass - I can only guess that this knocked the fizz right out of it. Either way, it was awful. It did match the salty attitude of the staff member delivering the news to us though, as she shouted it across the bar, rather than bothering to come over to speak to us. Eventually they did give us a glass of wine each instead. That should have been the end of it, but members of staff continued to come in and out of the bar making snide comments about the fizziness of the prosecco. I’m not sure what the point of the attitude was to be quite honest. I do not understand why you would go out of your way to try and make your customers feel uncomfortable for the sake of £3 worth of prosecco?! Maybe just stick to being an escape room, rather than serving drinks too, as clearly your games need the attention and imagination that you’re overstretching by running a bar alongside. I’ve played a lot of escape rooms, and worked at one for a short time, and I would NEVER try to make my customers feel small, no matter what. You didn’t succeed, we just left feeling like you were...
