We came here for The Squid Game: The Experience with 6 of my close friends which allowed us fanboys of the Netflix show to step into a non-lethal, interactive version of the deadly games. Located at the Excel Waterfront, the experience lasts approximately 60 minutes and features five iconic challenges inspired by the series.
Here's what you can expect:
The Games: You'll play adapted versions of games like "Red Light, Green Light" (with the Young-Hee doll), "Memory Steps" (a glass-effect bridge challenge), "Marbles," "Tug-of-War" (sometimes replaced with a different game), and "Round & Round" (a shape-matching game). While the games are inspired by the show, they are designed for fun and competition, with no actual threat to life.
Immersive Environment: The venue is designed to replicate the look and feel of the show, with iconic sets, props, and staff dressed as the masked guards and the Front Man. Suspenseful music from the show adds to the atmosphere.
Competitive Element: Players wear a high-tech wristband that tracks their scores and progress throughout the games. There's a competitive element, with rankings displayed, but ultimately it's about the experience rather than survival.
Family-Friendly: While the show is adult-oriented, the experience is designed to be family-friendly, and children are able to participate.
Post-Game Area: After the games, you can visit a Korean-inspired Night Market area where you can purchase snacks, drinks (including soju-infused cocktails), and exclusive "Squid Game" merchandise. There are also plenty of photo opportunities with props and characters from the show.
Practicalities: The experience is located at the Excel Waterfront, easily accessible via the Elizabeth Line and DLR (Custom House station is the closest). It's recommended to arrive early for check-in and briefing.
While reviews generally praise the immersive set design and the fun of playing the games, some note that the scoring system can be slow and that there can be delays between games, which can impact the overall momentum. Despite this, it offers a thrilling and engaging experience for fans of "Squid Game" looking to step into its world without the dire consequences.
P.S - At the end of the immersive experience I became the best player...
Read moreThe Tutankhamen Immersive Experience is not good. Poorly executed layout, signage, displays and VR. If you need to keep your kids busy for 2 hours, then maybe alright for that but don’t expect much more.
A lot of the exhibition does a great disservice to the truth of ancient Egypt. This exhibition is wee bits of truth and a lot of fantasy and an oddly continuous dedication to Howard Carter. The exhibition weaves in history and sites for other Egyptian kings and queens as if that is Tutankhamen’s story which is bizarre. The Valley of the Kings in Egypt is nowhere near water, and the reason for that would have been a great truthful fact to represent, but alas Disney it up with after life lava and volcanos and all kinds of puff that is fit for a Norse god rather than an Egyptian one.
You’ll see many black curtains and ropings in the space, random starts for queues for which you have no idea what the next activity is. You’ll likely get turned around a few times because no signage to tell you much more than where the toilets are.
And for the finale? A glitchy, underdeveloped VR experience where everyone is packed in a small space with the same avatar as Howard Carter’s creepy bust, everywhere you turn.
Gravity Global did one called Horizon of Khufu in Stratford last year, which was my first ever VR experience- it blew me away! This one at the Expo is such a letdown, like hilariously loose on the education, but heavy on the whitewashing and...
Read moreAs actor myself I appreciated the show loved the train set up with the moving stage was so kool well orchestrated great timing the black actress she was so good I loved her voice each word was just a graceful melody and the sassy attitude spot on. There was a bit of holograms that gave me goose bumps and when we were in the dark and the flashing door opened with the big white light and all that white smoke it really feel like was the doors of heaven and elvis was going to appear 🤣 During the live I danced like never before cause that s the most close thing we can get as Elvis Concert cause he is dead and we will never see him perform live so I really tried to enjoy every bit of it. The staff were so sweet they helped me charging my phone taking photos and videos and even the security when I left outside walked with me to the tube and offered me water and I was still having short breathe due all the dancing and shaking. Had such great time but really the train and the door in the clouds really gave me shivers sl...
