Went on a day when the Skills London exhibition was on so would have thought this place would have brought in enough staff to deal with the amount of customers. Was only one person on the till who was apparently the manager for the day but who had a terrible attitude and could barely handle the stress that was the long queue of people trying to order and the other staff who seemed to not be able to speak much English.
I ordered a goats cheese pizza which stated on the menu it came with red onions and spinach, and which sounded delicious and probably the only item on the menu that was worth the price (other items are extremely overpriced for the quality - my colleague ordered the chicken ciabatta which had 3 measly pieces of chicken in and which she said was very dry and unappealing). When it arrived I realised they had given me white onion and when I went to ask someone for some help the 'manager' made my complaint extremely uncomfortable in front of my colleagues. She offered me more onions (why would I want more of the wrong sort of onions), then more cheese and after I said it wasn't really good enough she kept asking me what I wanted. There was no apology and I've never felt more awkward when complaining about something that was clearly the restaurants fault (they should have warned me they had no red onions than hoping I wouldn't notice). In the end I asked for a refund in which she then changed her tune and offered me a free sandwich which I begrudgingly took. Whilst she was dealing with my complaint she went to the kitchen and in full view of me and my colleagues started condescendingly asking the cook's who had made the pizza and was very abrupt and short tempered with her staff. It was very awkward to watch and I felt very sorry for the other staff who have to work there if they get treated the way I saw throughout the day!
This place is probably only still standing from the passing trade who visit the Excel centre and I can't see how it would have regular customers as the beers cost £5 for East London and the food is over-priced. Soup...
Read morePizza was delicious although I didn't order pizza originally. 10 minutes after ordering, the waitress approached me and told me that they had run out of sauce for the chicken and could not fulfil my order, no problem I thought, so i asked for the vegetarian alternative only to be told that the last vegetarian one was given to the person i was eating with. I ended up with the pizza because i didn't really have much choice, I wasnt given a menu to look at so I could change my mind, so I went for the only thing I could think of. I could understand if the restaurant was busy but it really wasn't. But , as I said the pizza I did get served...
Read moreHad lunch here on a Saturday with a friend. We had the cheese and meat platter and a pizza each.
Staff was kind but slow - had to walk to the waitress to get our bill Food was good quality for the price Portion sizes are large, which I appreciated after having spent the morning at a conference Decor is charming and there is an authentic fire oven The biggest disappointment for me wasn't even the slow service but TV's on in the restaurant!!!! appalling and not in keeping with the atmosphere.
If you're looking for an easy going lunch, you're at the right place here but slow service and TV's make it feel like a...
