China Palace is located literally next to Excel London, a hall where my examinations were held (which is now an emergency/temporary field hospital to treat corona-virus patients). There was once when my friends and I stayed in an Airbnb nearby due to back-to-back examinations, we had dinner and lunch in China Palace for consecutive days. Everyone in my close friend group joined for the post-examinations celebratory lunch. How nostalgic. Great times, huh. Food wise, there seem to be a variety of options, and could also cater to my friend's vegetarian diet. The crispy aromatic roast duck (Peking-styled, I believe) was excellent. The ratio of the fat layer below the duck skin to the duck meat itself was adequate, definitely not something you will feel sated from. As for other dishes, there were about average. The service is great especially because it's hardly ever crowded (or at least not when I was there). Finally, the price is well below the Chinatown rates, possibly due to it being in Zone 3 (you even need the DLR to get there). Given the merits mentioned and assuming you are from Central London but happen to be around that area, do get your lunch/dinner sorted out in China Palace instead of heading back to the busier, generally less friendlier restaurants. China Palace, guaranteed no malice.

China Palace in London is a must-visit for anyone craving exceptional Chinese cuisine. Their Lobster E Mee is an absolute highlight, featuring perfectly cooked noodles and succulent lobster in a rich, flavorful sauce. On a cold London day, the Lamb Hotpot is a comforting and hearty choice, with tender lamb simmering in a delicious broth. Another standout is the Salted Egg Lobster, where the creamy salted egg sauce elevates the fresh lobster to a whole new level of indulgence. The Fried Quail is another crowd-pleaser—crispy, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Seafood lovers should not miss the Vermicelli Scallop with Garlic and Soya Sauce; the combination of delicate scallops, fragrant garlic, and silky vermicelli is simply irresistible. The service at China Palace is fantastic—efficient, friendly, and attentive to detail. The restaurant itself is spacious and beautifully designed, with high ceilings adding a sophisticated touch to the dining experience. If you’re in London and looking for exceptional Chinese food, China Palace is the place to go. Highly recommended for an unforgettable meal!

Take out adventure, anyone? We drove over an hour (yup!) from Canterbury for this Chinese food and… it was worth it! I’m actually NOT a lover of Chinese food but my friend has spoken about China Palace, Docklands for years where he would go after work in this commercial district. Then today, on a whim, we hit the road so I could put it to the test. We didn’t order until we arrived, waited no more than ten minutes in the car, turned around and drove back home. Just over an hour later the food was still warm and fresh and yes, I admit, delicious. It’s the best take out I’ve had in ages, and better than any traditional Chinese food I’ve eaten in Canterbury. I’m surprised to see such a wide range of ratings and reviews here, and can’t imagine that this same restaurant could have delivered any food or service under four stars; though based on our experience today I give it five for take out. But this was only my first time, so who’s to say? I will for one, because it won’t be my last take out trip to China Palace!

I've eaten at the China Palace on a previous occasion, which is the only reason I can comment that the food itself is quite nice. The dishes appear expensive at first glance, but after being served you find that each dish is actually a serving portion enough for feed 3 or more people.

The decor of the main restaurant area is pleasant, but the other rooms, and bathroom facilities leave a lot to be desired.

The service is down right awful. There is nothing positive that I can say about the service (should you manage to actually get served at all). On the one previous occasion that we dined here the staff weren't entirely polite, and made no indication as to the size of each dish - which resulted in a very expensive meal with a lot of left overs which was a terrible shame as the food itself was rather nice.

The service during our most recent attempt at dining here was abysmal. I can honestly say that I have never felt less welcome, or disgusted by the treatment of diners by staff.

On arrival we asked for a table, mentioning that there was a group of us, with a number of others that may arrive shortly. The hostess snapped at us rather rudely and told us that she needed an actual number and told us to sit in the waiting area until a table became available. When we were finally seated, we were taken down a dingy corridor, down into the basement, to a back room a few feet from the kitchen. The room itself had 3 large tables that barely allowed for space to get into our seats, whilst three large tv's played silently under the dim lighting. Menus were abruptly slapped down into the middle of our table, and without a word the waiter left.

After 20-30 mins we approached a waiter along the corridor and asked if it'd be possible for us to order drinks etc. He complained at us about how busy the restaurant was and for us simply to wait. We went up to prompt the hostess and waiter 2 more times - at one point being told that they were incredibly busy and even if they did take our order we'd still have to wait 30mins to actually get our food. We politely explained that we were happy to wait 30mins for food, but would like to place our drinks/food orders if possible. Again we were told to wait and someone would be along to take our orders.

All in all, after 1 hour and 30 mins and 3 prompts, we still hadn't so much as had an order taken for drinks, let alone for our meal. So we left - something that we should have done the instant that the hostess was initially rude with us. I should also point out that a group of our friends dining in the main section of the restaurant found they had to prompt several times before being served, and the group sitting on the table next to ours had been waiting longer than us as well.

Instead we went to an Italian restaurant nearby where the service and food...

I recently ordered a takeaway on China Palaces own website. I had previously ordered via Deliveroo without issue. I completed my online order for delivery at 18:35. By 19:25 I hadn’t received my delivery so gave the restaurant a call. A lady answered and told me that the driver had called and told her that he had gotten stuck in traffic due to an accident nearby and the food should be with us soon and assured me it would still be hot. I opened google maps to see if there were any accidents nearby, all roads in the vicinity were apparently clear. I continued to wait. At 19:55, another half an hour later (and 1 hour and 20 minutes since I placed my order) I called the store again to enquire on the location of my food. A man answered the phone and told me the delivery driver was on his way. As it had been a long time I challenged this. It is only a 7 minute drive to my house from the restaurant so I really could let see the issue. The man went on to say that the delivery driver had left a long time ago so it should be soon. I said that I didn’t want cold food as my order had been made well over an hour earlier. He said that he would give me 10% off my next order but i told him that if the food didn’t arrive soon I wouldn’t be ordering again! He then said he would call the delivery driver to check on his location and call me back. 15 minutes later when I didn’t receive a call back I called the restaurant again. This time no one answered the phone. I tried to call a further three times with no answer. As I had pre paid online I had no choice but to get into the car and drive there myself. When I entered the restaurant I explained that I had made an order 2 hours ago and had been told the driver was on the way. The guy apologised, told me that the order had not come through to them but he was going to cook my food and give me a full refund. I waited for the food and drove it home. The food was nice when we finally had it and I did get a full refund but we didn’t eat until two and a half hours after I placed the order online! It also looked like there was a private function going on so I’m not sure if that was a factor. And as for the lies I was told over the phone, who knows what the actual truth was and where my food actually went?! This was an awful experience and will definitely think twice about ordering...

Great food... Far from good service.

I think you will see majority of negative reviews on here are due to service. There isnt much bad you can say about the food because it tastes generally good. But the service is uncomfortable aswel as the atmosphere.

I went in to ask for directions on where i could park my car. The man with white hair at the front literally saw me and walked away. I stood there like a lemon for approx 40 seconds wondering if i had offended him somehow. Was he the manager? I dunno. Eventually he decides to come back... Walks past me and back to his desk. Then asks how can he help me? I mean the cheek of it... Im a customer i havent yet said a word and its like your giving me attitude already. I then ask for directions for parking and his literally words were "over there" pointing as if to say i know the area... Like cmon who does that? No point of reference or nothing.

Once we got back in... He did the same thing saw we were coming and hurried off. It took another customer who was sitting down to inform him that there were customers waiting at the door. We chose (not led) to an area of the restaurant. All i can describe is that there was like tons of debriss in a corner, like several child chair seats stacked, with pink bags and black bags. It just looked wierd that they would have them in plain view. It doesnt disrupt eating but it just makes u feel odd. AND THAT WASNT THE WORST OF IT....

So imagine you randomly see two people in plain clothes (not exactly dressed in a presentable manner, looking tired) just casually walking around the restaurant??? Exactly i wont say much on it. But again having someone who i can only assume was a staff member.... Eat their lunch only a few feet away from us in the corner of the room glued to her phone was just wierd and very uncomfortable. It just looked dodgy, like why was this little girl not in the same uniform as other staff?

Not to mention, we sat for aporox 10mins and no one would serve us, despite the place only having literlally no more than 15 customers at time. All of which were already eating. We had to call on someone to take our order.... At which they got order wrong 🙃

Prices are very high for certain dishes so be warned.

But yes, food tasted great! More than enough portions are provided and on my occasion...
