I went here on a very HOT day in London. The pub was everything I was hoping for as a first time visitor abroad. My friend and I ordered waters, a bacon cheeseburger, a steak & ale pie and a dry cider. Ordering was easy, even though I was lost on having regular peas or mashed peas. I'm going to credit my slowness to jet lag. Beverages were taken on my return trip from the bar and we waited for food. It was a longer wait, but I was warned that US dining in relation to timing was different. When the food arrived, I was excited! It was everything I was hoping for! I would highly recommend the steak & ale pie. It reminded me of a pasty, but better! @Numo was very kind in checking in on us to make sure we were good to go! I DID try the sticky toffee pudding, and it was meh. The custard tasted like a runny vanilla pudding cup, and the sauce was odd due to the raisins. The cake portion was spot on. I would dock .5 stars for the cake, but it's not THAT big an issue. I would 100% visit again!

Superb atmosphere. Very ambient in the 'sparkly' but cosy lighting which accentuates the large selection of alcohol at the bar giving it that bistro style in that Shakespearean literary aura. Nice soft music in the background for that pre-performance readiness that you'd expect with the Shakespeare Glove. Very spacious and airy seating area giving it the bistro pub ambient that urges on your appetite for a reasonably priced ciabbata or their popular favourites like pie and mash; ham, egg and chios dish; Hunter's Chicken; Roasted Half Chicken and Chicken Tikka. I got the cheapest on the menu: cheese and chutney ciabbata with salad and it is the freshest ciabbata and beautifully made salad! 👍 Overall a really impressive bistro pub with a good feel ambience.

Went in for breakfast on Saturday morning, ordered their full English, toast and a pint of pepsi. The full English and toast were reasonably priced but was very surprised when a pint of pepsi was ÂŁ4.85. Still, round the corner from Victoria station, clearly aimed at squeezing pennies from tourists etc, I get it. My friend went up and ordered the same full English only to have the girl at the bar turn around in front of her and shout out to the guy in a kitchen outfit that people keep offering breakfasts so she's going to take them off now. (At this time ONLY the breakfast menu was available). We waited a bit and food started to arrive, first breakfast came out and seemed fine but when mine came it was clearly lacking some items that had been listed on the menu, when my other friends came out hers was the same. We pointed out that there were no sausages in either of them and the waitress apologised and took the plates away. She returned a couple of minutes later with the same plates and told us that they had run out, so that's why there was some extra bacon. My friend said she was fine with that and I got a refund which was quickly processed. My issue with the situation was that it felt love it was dealt with in a very sneaky way. When the girl at the bar was saying about not selling more breakfasts it was clearly because they were out of items then, but nobody said anything to us. When they were making the breakfasts, nobody told us that they were out of some items. When the breakfasts were bought out to us they were placed down and nothing was said, and the waitress didn't seem too surprised when we pointed out that they were missing items. She must serve hundreds a week, and she didn't realise it was missing anything? Realistically they knew from when we ordered that they didn't have all of the items needed but tried to take our money and sneak it past us going that we either wouldn't notice it wouldn't say. This simply isn't acceptable. If we had ordered and been told at any point, 'by the way, we are out of some items, we can give extra of others to make up for it if you like', I would have had no problem at all. But to try and sneak the issue past us hoping that no one would say...

Came here a while back - had an extremely poor experience at the bar ( didn't have any food, just one drink )

Pathetic bartenders and horrible service - the bartender was a thief and racist.

Ordered one beer (first drink of the week and wasn't intoxicated in anyway), the total was 4 pounds and some change and I gave a 10 pound note expecting 5 pounds and a few pence of change and I only got the pence back in change. I asked the bartender about my change, he said I gave him only a 5 pound note and tried to lie about the situation. (the beer was also poor in quality)

I was near a camera and asked him to check his cameras and count his register but straight up ignored me and said nothing. I tried to get a manager / another employee to help me out but was ignored by that person as well. In addition, the bartender had some "nice" racist terms to say about me in Spanish (I have a minor in Spanish and have been speaking Spanish for over 10 years so I knew exactly what he said - I'm unable to use the specific words due to the explicitness of them but they were directed at my skin color and ethnicity)

I reached out to management via email but it went no where. Either way, not much I can do now since I was on holiday at the time.

There are many other good pubs nearby, go elsewhere, avoid this place unless you want to get robbed and have a poor quality beer. Tourists, beware as I am almost certain this is a combined effort from their staff to rip people off.

Good Job shakesphere pub, way to rip off a tourist and hire racist staff.

PS: Forget the fact that's "Just 5 pounds", it's the principal and you took no actions on your part despite me giving details about the situation, sat near a camera and gave you timestamps and refused to even count register......... add on some racist words by your bartender and you know that this is just a recipe for a poor business.

Go elsewhere, this shady pub is not worth anyone's...

Absolutely disgusting!! Don't even going there! Food terrible. Customer service absolutely shocking!!. Me and my family went hear for dinner on Saturday (8th). They served me meal just before 9 o'clock which included to kids meals! Then proceeded to come over to our table at 9 o'clock to inform me that it was over 18's only after 9 o'clock, which made my 5 year old daughter feel uncomfortable and like she couldn't finish her meal!!!! Would of been perfectly fine of course if they'd actually informed me of this before I ordered and paid for our meals!! I then went over to the bar to order a drink because I of course wasn't leave until we'd eaten the food we'd just paid for. They told me again we had to leave when I went up to the bar to order my drink and again said we had to leave which I said I won't be leaving until we are finished our meals. I was then served the wrong drink so I went back up to the bar to get the drink I actually ordered for the guy behind the bar when said the drink I had wasn't what order and didn't taste right which I'd know because it's my favourite drink and what I order every time!! For him to say what dose it taste like then. Very rude and unprofessional!! Wouldn't recommend at all!! The food was also rubbish and complete tasteless a special the chicken wings. You could get much better food from the chicken shop up...
