Admittedly, the site may not seem spectacular however the original entire abbey wood have been and it is extremely relevant to the history and development of Merton. The devoted archaeologist and dedicated volunteers have worked so hard to secure lottery funding and get to this point. The museum is free and very well laid out, with displays that wouldn't look out of place in any renowned museum. There are examples of the architecture using genuine pieces, the foundation of the abbey chapter House and also information about burials and a separate display about the subsequent industries on the site. The museum is only opened on specific days, but is situated right under the road. The old priory was massive in its heyday, but only the chapter house remains visible. Allow an hour for your visit.
