Be warned - Rooms are different standards, the Good Night Guarantee is very prescriptive and the customer service can be shocking. To be fair - we have stayed here several times and were perfectly comfortable, but a recent stay in February was ruined by a noisy room by the lifts and a rude, disinterested member of staff. Room 400 was the culprit. This room is right by the lift, and we were disturbed by the assorted doors of both the lift and the entrance to the lift area all night. We were even able to hear the lift announcer’s voice, calling “Doors Opening” etc all night! Conscious that this is a busy hotel, we allowed for the inevitability of this noise for the first hour or so when we went to bed, but the noise continued all night and we did not sleep. This lack of sleep was additionally complicated by the fact that this particular room does not benefit from the secondary glazing that clearly adds soundproofing to other rooms. So, early morning noise outside also did not help matters at all! First thing in the morning I went to see if we could move rooms for our second night, and was shocked by the disinterested, dismissive approach of the lady I assume to be the duty manager. There was absolutely no suggestion of any sympathy for our predicament, or our patience in trying to put up with the disturbance, assuming it would subside at some point in the night. The immediate and only response was to ask if I had complained in the night! I had not - I had foolishly assumed the use of the lift would subside, and I had not anticipated or allowed for additional disturbance from outside through the single glazed window. Whether I had complained in the night or not, the only solution would have been for my 62 year old wife and I to get out of bed, get dressed, pack up all our belongings and move rooms! There can have been no other immediate solution for a complaint at 3am….However, and much to my surprise, the Good Night Guarantee does not apply unless you complain at the time - this has been the line that the Premier Inn complaints department too. I have not had any recompense for a sleepless night.
In all honesty, I only sought to seek a refund for that night given the unapologetically rude approach of the staff member I spoke to first thing in the morning. I had had no sleep, following a long journey, and with a long day ahead, and I was met with disinterest and an apparently begrudging change of room to the top floor. (This room met the standards we expect from Premier Inn and from this particular branch, where we have stayed several times before.) The annoying thing is, this changed room is the same price as Room 400 but the air conditioning unit does not blow directly onto the bed, there is no noise from the lift or the doors accessing the lift area, and there is secondary glazing, helping with any noise from outside. So -my advice: Do not accept a room near the lift area - particularly Room 400! If you have any issues, make sure you raise them immediately, without giving the hotel or its guests the benefit of the doubt. Take the Good Night Guarantee with a pinch of salt Be wary of the assertion that all Premier Inn Staff are helpful...
Read moreStaff attitude, served food still frozen! Services supplied were very poor. Took booked for 2 people. Arrived Friday 18th March to one room key, upon checking into the room we found 1 bath towel. 1 wash towel.
Spoke to reception and this was remedied but made to feel it was as if we asked for the Crown Jewels once we had managed to gain attention from staff.
Went for a meal in the restaurant very small area and tables, waiter (very loose term applied here). Starter (garlic prawns) ordered by my partner was shambolic. Prawns looked like they had kissed the pan just enough to change the colour! But we’re edible. Garlic aspect was a slice of bread to accompany the prawns!
My partner ordered a lasagne for her main and when it arrived although it appeared burnt along the edges, the dish was actually still frozen in the middle. When raised with the “waiter” he went back to kitchen and checked to return and advise the lasagne had not been defrosted correctly. And could she choose something else. Having looked through the menu it was decided that nothing else would be worth risking. We advised we would not be eating with them and would pay for what we had been given so far, drinks and starter. Which we were advised were now on the house.
Overall experience of a London premier inn was disgusting. Attitude from reception staff was in need up further training on customer care.
My partner requested a 2nd key to the room as I vape and would wander down stairs and required key to access back to floor and room. She stated clearly the room number in my presence correctly. The young guy then disappeared into the back room claiming the computer was faster out there. He returned a few moments later to confirm the name of the booking. At this point he stated the name did not match the booking and asked her for the room number which she again stated clearly and he retorted with “ you said a different room” and stormed back into office to sort the key out.
Would very much not recommend this hotel “premier inn, Wimbledon South” to anyone until some serious upgrades have been carried out with regards to food training, customer care, and general...
Read moreParking here is much more difficult than it needs to be. There is only a parking meter and it does not accept any form of payment except coins. It's also got a huge sign with a bunch of text explaining how to use the parking machine, which is not at all straightforward. This needs to be sorted.
The reception and service was a little iffy. There were a huge amount of people waiting when we arrived, and only one person on the reception, who then went off into an office and didn't emerge for about five minutes, so there was a very long wait for checking in.
Bizarrely, we were given room 400, and there are NO signs to indicate where 400 actually is. Numbering begins from 401 and goes upwards, so beyond knowing it's the fourth floor, you have to just hunt down the room.
The room was clean and well equipped, and everything worked properly. The bathroom was very modern with a good shower. Towels were a generous size and the bedding was more than enough to be comfortable.
Unfortunately the walls and ceilings are made from some kind of wafer thin material and there was a huge amount of noise, mainly from directly above, which continued late into the night. Obviously there's not a lot the staff can do about this, but it's worth bearing in mind if you want some peace and quiet.
The hotel is in a really good area with a large supermarket across the street and a number of restaurants opposite. It has a small selection of things available from a vending machine in the lobby, and there is a 24-hour petrol station within a few minutes' walk.
Notably, there ARE electrical sockets next to the bed, which is nice. Some hotels only have them across the room which is no good if you need to charge a phone and still use it, but this was a nice surprise.
It's hardly a luxury place, and this is reflected in the price tag, but the parking was a real pain and something that can be solved so easily. Apart from that, I feel like I got...
