Nice experience, however issues with customer service. My experience at Revitalise Urban Spa was generally pleasant, and I appreciate their focus on the growing interest in sauna and cold plunge therapies. The infrared sauna and the calming incense were lovely touches, and there was a variety of cold plunge options, including the copper bath, overhead bucket and individual baths.
However, I did encounter some service issues. Like others have mentioned, the changing rooms could benefit from improved cleanliness and the showers weren’t fully operational. Requiring a £1 coin for the lockers also seemed a bit inconvenient.
My main concern stemmed from a scheduling conflict. We arrived early on a Saturday for our pre-booked session, hoping to maximize our hour. The staff member, who was very friendly, informed us that a large private booking meant we'd need to delay our start by 10-15 minutes. He assured us we'd still have our full hour so we took ourselves to the park to enjoy the sun. When we returned and started our sauna session at half the hour, we were then told, after about 30 minutes, that we needed to leave due to another private group booking. The staff member acknowledged an overbooking error and promised a refund. While I appreciated the apology, the resolution was disappointing. After changing, we were informed that the staff member spoke to the manager on the phone and would only refund £10 per person. Given that we received only about half of the service we paid for, this felt disproportionate.
I understand that scheduling errors can happen, especially in the early stages of a business. It's my hope that they will implement a buffer period between bookings, particularly private ones, to prevent similar issues in the future. While I enjoyed aspects of my visit, the handling of the overbooking has unfortunately made me hesitant to return. I believe focusing on local community members, who are more likely to become repeat customers and offer recommendations to friends, would be a valuable investment for...
Read moreI’ve been eagerly waiting for Revitalise Urban Spa to open by Hackney Downs for a while now and I haven’t been disappointed.
It’s easy to find (10 min walk from Rectory Road or 15 mins from Hackney downs); it’s also well situated, surrounded by post-spa cafes amongst this new development.
On entering, you are greeted by the charming (and very knowledgeable) CEO and founder, Kacper. He’s on hand to ease your fears about cold-dipping and gives practical (and non-patronising) advice on how to make the most of your hour.
The space is massive, equipped with 2 infra-red saunas, a huge Lithuanian sauna and x3 copper baths of varying sizes. For the brave, there is an also a pulley-operated bucket - my personal favourite!
The space takes a no-frills, modern and non-pretentious approach (no robes here!) and that really suits the type of clientele that visit the Spa. Everything is super clean and hygienic, something that they take seriously here, and all of the copper baths are filtered.
The main sauna is great, big enough for 15! There is a watering can filled with warm water and essential oils to ensure you get the temp exactly as you like it.
The ice baths are all around 5/6 deg so perfect for a few mins of cold before returning to the sauna, I’d only been in barrels before, so these copper baths are not messing around!
Changing rooms are shared with the main building and are just outside of the facility - this is actually fine, there are lockers in the changing rooms or in the main spa, there are secure cubby holes.
You can tell that the space is a labour of love and it really shows with the enthusiasm that the team have for their guests.
I’ll be definitely coming here regularly and it’s an awesome resource for the local...
Read moreI came here today with my sister. It is OK. We had a nice time because we were together and it was quiet. The main issue is that it is vastly overpriced for an essentially upmarket leisure centre. Had it been less expensive, I think I would have enjoyed the novelty and may have returned but £35 ph for an hour I expected more. Firstly, the entry had a really disconcerting smell of feet- we did mention this to the receptionist who on request burnt some incense. Secondly, the changing situation isn’t very comfortable. You pass through a cold, bare (apart from an arbitrary plant) corridor (knowing you are going to go back through it in your swimsuit soon) and the changing rooms are leisure centre. They weren’t dirty. But they werent clean. There was a leak on the floor with a yellow plastic bollard and some dirt? They were cold too. And the lights were bright white strip lights. Not very zen. Take your own towels; put a pound in the locker- all that stuff. The spa room itself is nice enough but is essentially an office with some nice spa equipment in. The receptionist said she needed an hours notice to turn on the infrared sauna..we had booked just under an hour ahead. She did turn them on for us.
I enjoyed my local leisure centre where I pay £6 to swim and jacuzzi. I also enjoy a spa which is typically $. To be honest, for an hour, this felt like poor value. I...
