The see of the catholic archbishop of southwark dedicated to St George patron saint of England was badly damaged during the blitz and substativly rebuilt. Today there was ordination to the order of deacons. The church was the site of St John Paul II administration of the Sacrement of the Sick during his pastoral visit in May 1982. The cathedral has a nice side chapel to St Thomas of Canterbury and the English martyrs. Sts John Fisher and Thomas More are depicted at the main door. The cathedral holds a relic of St Oscar Romero who like St Thomas of Canterbury was murdered in his cathedral. St Oscar defended both the poor and the teachings of the Church. The stations of the cross start to the left of the main door on entry and run one side of the cathedral. A portion of the original High Altar is set out near the chapel to st oscar. A prayer station to Our Lady for peace in the Ukraine is set up between st Patrick chapel and font. Which is in it proper place the right of the main door on entry. St George's is a beautiful cathedral near to Lambeth North station and the Imperial War museum. A place of...

A stunningly beautiful lesser known London Cathedral with a lovely steward . After the Catholic Emancipation Act of 1829 Father Thomas Doyle raised the money to build this fantastic building and hired Augustus Welby Pugin as architect and St Georges was opened in 1848 . Pugin also designed great Cathedrals in Nottingham Birmingham Northampton all great and much more as well as works by his family buisness like Cardiff and Wrexham Cathedrals . It survived being greatly damaged by a incendiary bomb in 1941 the newly restored building was designed by Romilly Craze finished in 1958 who also designed the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham Norfolk. It has been visited by Pope John Paul II , Mother Teresa and the Dalai Lama . One I believe that's often missed which is a pity it gets a big up from me . Oh I almost forgot its now been visited by me as well hahaha . A picture added of Pugin design before 1941 . Picture added of a plaque in commemoration of Romilly Craze in...

It is sad that the priest who says the mass in Spanish has not clue a bout getting the followers. Today sunday palm's day and with the amount of worshippers, he failed to give us a beautiful mass. His horrible singing killed the magic of the mass. He should be more appreciative that the church's followers want a mass that is emotional and get into our hearts but this priest is rubbish at his job, the lack of enthusiasm towards arranging such an important day in the Catholic calendar, and the only thing he was worried was about the leaves of the palms vase taken away when he failed to give it to the worsdshippers at the beginning of the mass, causing confusion among us. His speech at the mass was a total failure of a great delivery. Never I will come back to his mass. Thumbs down to him. Please get us a different Spanish speaker priest. This Ecuatorian priest had not passion and love for his devotion...
