St. James's Palace was build in Tudor times by probably one of the most famous Tudors of them all- King Henry VIII. The Palace took an important place in the British history and it was the official residence of the monarch until in 1837 Queen Victoria moved the monarchy in Buckingham Palace. St. James's Palace is still active and here the Queen and the members of the royal family welcome most of their guests. Located next to the Mall, the palace is in a walking distance from Buckingham palace, Trafalgar Square and even Big Ben. It is very easy to reach via underground/metro (both Green Park and Charring Cross stations are close by). If you have found this information useful and interesting then you may like the videos we make about the city. There's a special one about this palace which can give you more stories and facts including an answer to the question "Why it wasn't normal for a building to have that many chimneys in those days". To find the video simply search for "curious pavel st james" in YouTube.

I learned about this location online while in London. I have tried to watch the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace on two previous trips and found it nearly impossible for a short person unless you camp out for quite a while! This area requires some planning to arrive early enough for a good seat, but since it is not as familiar to tourists, it was very accessible. We were able to listen to a couple tour guides explain the proceedings, as well. We got to hear the Scottish guard play bagpipes and see the inspection of the guard prior to their march! Excellent experience! *be sure to check the schedule for the different locations online as the formal changing of the Guard is NOT daily in the summer!

St James's Palace is a stunning example of Tudor architecture, showcasing beautiful red brick design. Although I didn't have time to explore it in detail, the palace's historical significance and elegant exterior left a lasting impression. It serves as a key royal residence and is often less crowded than nearby Buckingham Palace, making it a peaceful spot to appreciate London's royal heritage. The surrounding area, including the Queen's Chapel, adds to its charm. I look forward to visiting again for a more in-depth experience of its fascinating history and architecture.

St. James's Palace is a historic royal palace located in the heart of London, England. It has a rich and fascinating history dating back to its construction in the 16th century. While it may not be as well-known as some of London's other royal residences like Buckingham Palace, it holds a special place in British royal heritage.

St. James's Palace was built by King Henry VIII in 1531, and it served as a royal residence for many generations of British monarchs. It was the birthplace of several British monarchs, including Queen Elizabeth I and King Charles II. Over the centuries, it has been the site of numerous important events, from royal weddings to diplomatic receptions.

Today, St. James's Palace has a primarily ceremonial role in the monarchy. It houses the offices of the Court of St. James's, where official ceremonies and receptions are organized. While it is not typically open to the public as a tourist attraction, visitors can catch glimpses of its impressive Tudor architecture from the surrounding streets and explore nearby landmarks like Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and the Mall.

In summary, St. James's Palace in London, England, is a historically significant royal residence with a rich history dating back to the Tudor era. While its role has evolved over the centuries, it remains an important part of British...

St James's Palace is the most senior royal palace in the United Kingdom. Located in the City of Westminster, although no longer the principal residence of the monarch, it is the ceremonial meeting place of the Accession Council and the London residence of several minor members of the royal family.

Built by King Henry VIII on the site of a leper hospital dedicated to Saint James the Less, the palace was secondary in importance to the Palace of Whitehall for most Tudor and Stuart monarchs. The palace increased in importance during the reigns of the early Georgian monarchy, but was displaced by Buckingham Palace in the late-18th and early-19th centuries. After decades of being used increasingly for only formal occasions, the move was formalised by Queen Victoria in 1837. Today the palace houses a number of official offices, societies and collections and all ambassadors and high commissioners to the United Kingdom are still accredited to the Court of St James's. The palace's Chapel Royal is still used for functions of the British royal family.

Mainly built between 1531 and 1536 in red-brick, the palace's architecture is primarily Tudor in style. A fire in 1809 destroyed parts of the structure, including the monarch's private apartments, which were never replaced. Some 17th-century interiors survive, but most were remodelled in the...

ULTIMA ATUALIZAÇÃO: JULHO 17, 2018 IAMI GERBASE (HOSTELWORLD) AND LAURA CARNIEL 5
