Visited 25/01/2023 early morning around 5am luckily the Greggs on the station approach outside was open as not much was open inside apart from WH Smith’s. Not a frequent train traveller so wasn’t aware train platforms are not shown until around 15 minutes before departure. Station was clean and well lit, no need for any interaction with staff. Once on the train found seat assigned and then connected to the temperamental / patchy on board WiFi which seems to only really work when train is either travelling slowly or at a station. Train was generally clean, so overall a good experience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This station was my first impression of Manchester and it looked very nice and very organised and well signed for the tourist (like me). Unfortunately after leaving the station things started to go down hill. Obviously Manchester is suffering with a massive homeless problem and I had never seen so many people drinking (and smoking) on the street. I was also twice openly confronted with people trying to sell me (obviously stolen) perfumes in the city centre.

I like this station as it is compact and it is easy to find everything. Platforms nice and close together as it is a terminus station Good eateries and shops. Two pianos and I had fun playing those. I love the departure board with all destinations in alphabetical order. I wish they had one of those at Birmingham New Street. My visit to the ticket office was not as pleasant. A member of staff was rather curt and abrupt.

Good grief!!! Stardate 9/6/22 Who would have thought that, after over two years of restrictions, things were as bad as ever. OK, some services are reliable, but which ones? Which days? What times? Apart from the continual insult to intelligence of platforms 13 and 14 (see below), I no longer despair at 'train cancelled due to lack of train crew', I expect it. As for other matters, gosh, what a surprise, RMT are on strike again. It won't make any difference. I live in Bolton and only the other day had to go to Manchester Victoria and there was only one train to Bolton - the Southport train - and it was cancelled. The choices were: wait another hour in case they decided to run a train, catch a number 8 bus from Cheetham Hill bus station or walk home. I should have chosen the last one. Just as over two years ago, RMT can have as many strikes as they want. If you live in Bolton, at times you won't know the difference. 2/12/19: I have the greatest of sympathy for my fellow travellers south of Watford who will be in despair at the strikes of RMT. However, today (Sunday) stood out as one of those dreadful days that makes one so angry that fuming silence is the only recourse. If you were at Piccadilly in the early evening (nay ANYTIME) on this Sunday, you would know what I mean. Cancelled trains, late (then cancelled at the last minute) trains, etc., etc. My misfortune is to live in Bolton - a huge town with one train an hour on Sunday. We don't need industrial action up north - we wouldn't know the difference between strikes and the damn trains not turning up anyway!!! 16/10/19: I regret to say that I behaved with impropriety today. One of the pointless staff 'told me' (not 'asked') to wait behind one of the crapulous lines. I decided to fake a John Cleese/Inspector Cluseau type of French accent and said along the lines of inspector Cluseau 'I dooo not understand' and hey presto, he walked away!!! I do not recommend this form of action to all since even the most intellectually challenged in society must eventually notice something amiss when hundreds of wannabe Cluseaus converge on to platform 14. It's still bloody dreadful though. 7/8/19: This is pathetic beyond belief. The crapulous red lines have been moved! They are nearer the edge of the platform. Sadly, dimwits are still about trying to tell you what to do. Earlier edit: I have to give one star to review the crapulous edifice. Am I the ONLY person on the planet to find platforms 13 and 14 so much an insult to intelligence that I am PHYSICALLY SICK every time I use the damn place. I went to Birmingham New Street recently and, for a railway station infinitely buisier, THERE WERE NO BLOODY CRAPULOUS RED AND YELLOW LINES AND NO DIMWIT STAFF TRYING TO TELL YOU WHAT TO DO on the platforms. Get rid of them, treat people like CUSTOMERS. Piccadilly is, without doubt, the WORST STATION IN EUROPE. Confucius says ' if a place is run by dimwits, you will be treated as dimwits.' Welcome to Piccadilly...

I have to report a serious incident what has happened at Manchester Piccadilly Railway station on the 13 th of March 2023. around 12 o'clock. We arrived from Liverpool Lime Street Station to Manchester Piccadilly station. Me and my niece showed our valid tickets to the exit staff at the railway station. There was a middle-aged, short lady who was extremely arrogant ,agressive , intimidating with us for no reason. She shouted at our face very disrespectfully. Anyway I am 59 years old lady and I am not used to this behaviour. She yelled "these tickets are not valid, you must buy new ones , otherwise I will call the police! "I told her that we have valid tickets , just we get off on the same off peak train just one hour earlier, but we asked everything if it was allowed at Liverpool station if it was acceptable or not. The controller lady (inspector) told us " it's okay but next time you have to wait that train what you have bought the ticket for! " Anyway it was the same East Midlands railway company , were the similar stops, the similar stations , similar travel time just I finished my job earlier I wanted to get the train one hour earlier. I told the lady that that I'm not willing to purchase another ticket. Why should I pay twice for the same thing? Her replied was the following" why did you come to Manchester if you don't have money? Why are you here in the UK?" -It's true I'm not British but I am a decent lady from Eu. How can she does such a thing ? How can employs such an xenophobe officer full of haterid towards others? How can employs East Midlands railways an officer such a nefarious behaviour? Finally of course we bought the tickets once more for the same train, however we had a valid ticket. She treated us like criminals. She threatened us with the police all the time, she did not let us to say a word or leave the station. And what's then if we had been sitting for one hour at the station without going exit? We just wanted to watch Manchester for one day. It wasn't a nice welcome. I think her behaviour was extremely shameful outrageous and definitely...

Manchester Piccadilly train station is a great building but it is the worst train station I have ever got a train from. A few days ago I went to buy a single train ticket to Gatley and got to the station in plenty of time, 10 minutes before the train was to leave the station.

I got to one of the ticket machines to buy a ticket and this cost £2.30, got to the pay stage and it didn't accept cash, realised other ticket machines there also didn't accept cash. I thought okay well I will buy the ticket from the cashier at the ticket counter. I go to the counter and wait my turn only to be told that "We don't accept cash here there is one ticket machine in Piccadilly that accepts cash, this guy here will show you where it is" I follow another employee of Piccadilly that shows me where the cash ticket machine is, my Gatley ticket now costs £4.90, this is a 113% increase in ticket cost from a few minutes ago. I asked the employee who showed me the machine and he said it's because you are travelling within 5 minutes we are allowed to do that, he also told me that the system was updating the next day to not allow people to get tickets to trains within 15 minutes of a train departure time.

This is unbelievable that this ticket pricing and travel restrictions are allowed, cash payment also needs to be made available on all ticket machines. Bring back British Rail, a company that was run for the people not for profit or to push any stupid cashless society or travel restrictions on everyone...
