Dundee Contemporary Arts Center is a fantastic place to spend an evening, with a stylish restaurant serving good food and modern, comfortable cinema showing international and non-mainstream films. We made a reservation for the restaurant and purchased our movie tickets (for Japanese film "The Boy and the Heron") in advance. Although we arrived a little early, we were shown to our table immediately. The service was top-notch, and the food was delicious. The BBQ pulled beef was cooked to perfection -- the meat was tender with a nice smoky flavor, and was accompanied by mozzarella flat bread and salad. The Mezze Plate, meanwhile, ordered by the other member of my party, came with a range of vegetable and fruit items and diverse flavours, with the cauliflower fritters being particularly highly praised. The cinema had large comfortable chairs, not to mention good picture and sound quality. The small size of the hall meant it had a more intimate feel than the large multiplexes, and it was clean and well-maintained. The DCA Center comes highly recommended for dining and entertainment, and arguably is one of the jewels in Dundee's ongoing process of revitalisation and...
Read moreI am a regular at the DCA for their art exhibitions which are always well curated and free! On this occasion, I wanted to write a review concerning the Ciné Sunday experience that the DCA has to offer. My kids really wanted to see the new Wonka film. After looking at prices at the other well-known Cinema chains in Dundee, my wife and I were shocked at exactly how much this was going to cost. We simply could not afford it! Before giving up on the idea, I checked the DCA for prices and saw that Wonka was on in their Ciné Sunday experience. Their was a claimants option for those families who were on benefits which we were able to use. So for under a tenner each, we were able to get to see the film, while also enjoying a hot tea or coffee (and hot chocolates for the kids) and a hot morning roll (egg or bacon) included in the price. I will add that we would have been nearly twenty pounds extra at the other cinemas, just for the tickets! The cinema was very clean and comfortable, and it felt like a real treat without breaking the bank. The staff who served us and attended the cinema were all lovely. Recommended. I hope we can come back...
Read moreWe have taken to exploring Dundee a little this year and with the development of the V&A underway it seems an exciting place to be. The DCA is also very much worth visiting. It is a super building designed by Richard Murphy and built in 1993. It holds exhibition space, cinema's, a shop, cafe, print studio and more. Spacious and sleek with comfortable sofas dotted about you feel you can linger. We visited the Navid Nuur exhibition, which was free, having it all to ourselves and were entranced by his work. Downstairs at The Jute cafe you can eat, drink and talk art. Outside there is a large terrace which includes a tiered sitting area. We enjoyed drinks, coffee and cake in the sunshine, all a little cheaper than Edinburgh prices. We then ventured back into the exhibition space to absorb more of Nuur's work. The shop has a small but concise selection of art and design books and sells very stylish items by Joseph and Joseph, Black + Blum and...
