I was not here for a stay in any of the rooms, but for a conference. I want to say right up front that the staff were indeed very friendly, polite, and helpful, but scatterbrained. One staff member took the keys to the bar home and they couldn't open the bar to serve people until more than an hour after the posted time. A group of 7 of us sat in the restaurant for over an hour and no one came to ask if we wanted to eat. I mistook the front desk for a snack bar and asked about food. They said the restaurant was open. I watched an employee come out of the kitchen and eat his dinner, but still never had anyone ask if my group wanted to eat. And never saw anyone in the restaurant who looked like wait staff.
Now for the safety issues. As a person who has limited mobility, I noticed the carpet in the lobby that was buckled and loose in several places. I watched as one of the conference volunteers tripped and fell over one spot. I also noticed the very uneven tile at the hall entry that lead to the restrooms and the pool. I almost fell myself a couple times at that spot as the floor is very wobbly. There is a massive, beautiful statue made of metal in the lobby. One hand holds some long strands of wire that hang out over the walking area. My partner caught his head on these and got scratched. Had he been going faster, it would have drawn blood. He is 6'2" tall. Anyone taller could take an eye out on that "art".
People are accustomed to having to pay ridiculous prices at these kinds of events for food and such and this was no exception. I just really hate to pay $5.50 + tax for a wrap that is mostly empty tortilla, a bag of chips, a bag of peanuts, and a fruit cup that is mostly unripe fruit. The provided snacks were muffins in the morning and the one I got was old, stale, and so dry that I threw most of it away. (The chocolate chip that was on the top was gray and crumbly it was so old.) The chips and salsa they set out in the afternoon were excellent in flavor, but not enough for the amount of people in attendance. There was also no way to serve the chips other than to dig in with your hands. The woman in front of me used one of the paper bowls provided, so I followed suit, but a LOT of people just grabbed some with their hands. New Mexico health and safety inspectors must be asleep on the job as far as this hotel is concerned.
Yes, this place is amazingly decorated, but with trip hazards all over the place and art that has sharp edges hanging over areas where people walk, restrooms that would fit better in a gas station than a hotel, and staff that is friendly, but not terribly competent, I would not recommend anyone hold...
Read moreThe hotel common spaces were very welcoming and comfortable we had family and friends join us 2 of the nights. It was super fun Friday Night (May 23rd) with the bar tender Manny. He deserves huge kudos for his service he made it fun! We got a Jr Suite with a king. We were very pleasantly surprised with the quality and comfort of the bed. I always feel the comfort of the bed and bedding is like gambling. The room was clean and ready for us. We definitely won with the comfort. And wow the room was sooooo spacious, loved the over size chairs. My husband always insists we get a balcony. I do wish there were some chairs on the balcony though. |Rachel was the gal who really stepped up with her customer service. I felt she was welcoming me to her home rather than just a hotel. It seemed like there were several groups checking in at the same time. She handled the rush with professionalism and a huge smile. I shared with Rachel that I am going through Stage 4 Breast cancer and we were here visiting family and friends (Albuquerque is my home) and hoping it was not my last visit home. She was so kind her words and true compassion touched my heart.|I told everyone who would listen they should go to Nativo.|A little bit of frustration. Wishing there were more nights with a bar tender and Gardunos was closed the three times we attempted to go. I understand they were not busy and closed due to that reason. I definitely understood, but a bit disappointed.|Sure would be awesome to re-open the bar in the lobby.||Saturday night almost made me question my original appreciation for Nativo. The gal working the front desk that night was very overwhelmed and frankly it didn't seem like she wanted to be there. I had asked for a glass of wine that was included daily. There are laws and rules that must be followed but there is a way to tell your guests and be genuine. I had mentioned I didn't get the wine the day before because when I was ready Rachel was busy and when she was available for a minute we had already had enough at the bar. She also said I need your ID. No may I please see your ID and sorry I know you need to go get it from your room.... just very direct, abrupt and matter of fact.|Keep in mind I'm very emotional as I visit family and friends with difficult conversations about the cancer.|I don't know her name but she needs to be reminded we all...
