Excellent small-town museum that exhibits the history of Allen. I especially liked their exhibit "Allen - Then and Now," which looked at photos of downtown Allen and the blocks around the museum and compared it to what the area looks like today. It was a great way to see how Allen has transformed through the decades from a small town centered around the railroad to a thriving city in the DFW metroplex. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I feel the locomotive and caboose on display outside the museum could use some descriptive signs around them. They are nice to look at and walk around, but I didn't seen any plaques stating what they were, where they came from, or what their connection to Allen is. Otherwise, this was an excellent museum with very nice staff.

We visited this center today while Allen heritage day was celebrated. The center has history facts of Allen which are interesting, especially the info about the Sam Bass railroad. Would be great of videos are added in the center. Train robbery reenactment was done by Allen high school drama club and this play was fun to watch.

Locomotive #20, named "Ebeneezer Allen" by City of Allen, TX. - It represents the heritage here, with the coming of the Houston & TX Central RR in 1874 which held cotton, grains, produce, livestock and also people!

Very disappointed! Website and signs on building say the museum is open the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month from 10 am - 2 pm. However, yesterday, the 2nd Saturday, it was NOT open and there was no one around, and no signs indicating why the museum wasn't open. You would think they would be open when they say they will be, especially since it is also Spring Break. I gave it 2 stars because it looks like a neat place...
