Quiet and tucked away in a shopping center, Sushi Maru is a good spot for sushi. Upon entering, we were greeted with a hearty "Irasshaimase!" like we were back in Tokyo. A spicy tuna roll and two orders of tempura udon would be just right. The roll was generous in size and had nice kick to it. The bowls of udon were served hot with a fresh basket of lightly fried tempura pieces (shrimp, gourd, onion, sweet potato, potato). The accompanying sauce was lightly sweet which made for good contrast to the broth of the noodle soup. Solid service. Clean restaurant. We enjoyed the experience and will have to bring our teenage boys next time.

Second time visiting Sushi Maru, and yup, it's great! We ordered veggie tempura, Las Vegas roll, and Crawfish Baked roll. It was all fresh and delicious. Definitely ate way too much because it's hard to stop! I appreciated the variety of "cooked" rolls as I'm not into raw fish. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. They checked with us multiple times and even offered to adjust the thermostat to ensure I felt comfortable! That's unheard of but so appreciated. I do wish they served sparkling water such as Topo Chico or Pellagrino, but given everything else, I can easily overlook this. Definitely recommend checking it out!

Update One year later: Just as amazing, maybe even better and service was very attentive too! Original Review: Oh my gosh, I can't believe places like this still exist! This was the absolute BEST Japanese cuisine I've ever had. All of it. They make everything flavorful, even the miso soup was delightful. Teriyaki chicken/shrimp with fried rice was cooked perfectly and fried rice is worth the upcharge (which is rare!). The vegetable tempura was the best I've ever had hands down. Like WOW! Service was welcoming, friendly, and perfectly attentive. Best restaurant overall that I've been to in a really long time.

This place has PHENOMENAL sushi with authentic ingredients and creative recipes. I am shocked to find it in sleepy old Allen, Texas! I was craving sushi and had a Grubhub coupon to use and this place popped up. I had never been in person but decided to give it a whirl. I started with some hamachi (yellowtail) sashimi just to get a basic feel for the place, but added some of the decidedly fusion-cuisine items as well: the Butterfly Kisses Roll, the Japanese Nachos, and the Japanese Burrito.

The hamachi melted in my mouth with just a hint of ocean brininess which was super pleasant. But the other three creative options really showed the finesse of the itamae: first, the "nachos" were really clever, served on crisp rice cakes and with a sweet tonkatsu and a greenish sauce redolent with wasabi. The Butterfly Kisses were an innovative roll that used a kind of crab salad in place of rice and raw salmon in place of nori. And the "burrito" was outstanding: edible soy paper held tuna, salmon, and avocado and came with a spicy mayonnaise as well as chile-flecked ponzu for dipping. It was so good I inhaled it in about just 6 bites.

Even delivered, the sushi came carefully and artfully displayed, and the sauces were all on point. There was even real shiso leaf separating the rolls! I hadn't eaten shiso in years, and it was a lovely surprise to try again.

All of this in "sleepy" Allen, Texas—my home city? I think this town is making its...

Been going here for 2+ years fairly consistently now. Food is phenomenal, my go to sushi/Japanese restuarant in all of Allen, heck, probably all of DFW!

Highly recommend the Salmon tower. Prices recently got kicked up a bit so not exactly a cheap place to eat at, but nothing super crazy.

Highly recommend the lunch bentos ($13-17) or the Salmon Tower $21). The lunch bentos are insane value, healthy balanced meal, pick your protein on essentially a teriyaki plate (bento portion), bowl of rice, bowl of miso soup, bowl of salad with dressing, and some fried tempura with 1 gyoza... For as low as $13!?!

Salmon tower is just beautiful. Have not had any sushi or "salmon/ahi" tower from any other restuarant in the world compare. I've been all over Texas, and half the USA. This is the best Salmon Tower I've ever had.

I hate writing such a glowing review because I don't want them to get super busy, but on some weekdays business is slow and I want...

Me and my boyfriend came at 2 to come order some food to go, we ordered a lunch 🍱 order and a dinner order, and then asked for extra garlic butter and teriyaki on the SIDE. My boyfriend said it LOUD and clear. So she says it’s gonna take 15 minutes so my boyfriend takes me home because he had to go to work. I come to pick up the food and I always check before I leave any place and there wasn’t any extra garlic butter or teriyaki on the side. So when I try to go ask for it they were closed, which doesn’t have it on the door only online that they close at 2:30pm. They were eating and she had an attitude when she opened the door. I said we asked for garlic and teriyaki on the side and she said we already put it on the food and I said but we asked for it on the side. So she has her attitude and walks to the back while I’m standing outside waiting and she only brought extra garlic butter and closed the door. Yeah food may be good but...
