I wanted to find a local place that sells flowers for occasions like Valentine's Day, Birthday... (arrangements like roses, lilies, etc). I always thought of Dan Schantz as more of a plant-store! Since I don't do a lot of planting, I didn't ever stop by.
Too often I ordered flowers from places like 'pro-flowers' or '1800flowers', etc. Rarely did I get flowers that were as fresh as they were advertised. I also didn't like finding boxed flowers that were laying on my doorstep all day. A delivery service (UPS or FedEx) would drop them off and the summer heat or winter cold ruined them every time. I would call the flower-pushers who WOULD replace them but that made my gift late.
A coworker told me about Dan Schantz selling flowers so I ordered roses on Valentine's Day and crossed my fingers. The person who took my order said I should call when I get there and wait in the pick-up area; someone would bring the flowers out to my car !!! It all fell in place as promoted and the flowers were BEAUTIFUL !! The little angel delivered the flowers to me in the car amidst a rain and wind storm and I had to keep her from returning a tip.
So goodbye ftd and pro-flowers. (SHOULD be named 'anti-flowers'!!!) I found Fresh and Local! The price is reasonable and when I get the flowers they aren't dead! They have an aroma and are full of life!!!
(For the record: My purchase was as the Dan Schantz on Lehigh St...
Read morePlanned an Oma and grandson trip into Schantz's jungle since he enjoys investigating plants. Looking for small succulents and ferns, I was delighted with the variety and the plants were lovely. Went in for 6, wound up with 12. The greenhouse folks were quite nice and willing to answer questions. I lowered the rating a star because of the checkout process and the cashier. Only one cashier was working and she wasn't very speedy. Normally, I don't mind waiting at all, but this woman was a Negative Nellie. When it was my turn at the front of the line, she wanted me to begin check out before the folks in front of me had an opportunity to pick up their plants from the counter. When my grandson and I placed our selections on the counter, she complained that we had cacti. She proceeded to tell everyone that she hated cacti and refused to touch them. My grandson is 8. Sweet kid that he is, he placed the cacti so the cashier could see the prices. (BTW: he did so without injury) She then refused to place the cacti in our carrier. She told me that unless I wanted to hand carry 3 cacti, I'd have to pack them myself because she wasn't...
Read moreI love this place and was happy to see they opened back up. However, was disappointed that even though they seemingly had safeguards in place for social distancing, customers were not following through. There were plenty of employees around that COULD have said something to the many customers who kept walking from the store back to the greenhouse even though there were arrows and signs saying 'one way'. By doing so they had to keep brushing past the people in line totally making the one way social distancing thing useless. Also had the person behind me standing less than 3 feet from me. Even when we got into the store area where there was tape on the floor for people to see where to stand they still would not stay back. Normally I would have said something but since the line was moving rather slowly that would have meant having to stand there even more uncomfortably after speaking up to this ignorant lady. Please Schantz, get it together. Have your employees enforce the efforts you made to keep your store safe for...
