Madam Queen — Attraction in Amarillo

What a GORGEOUS steam engine & tender!! Why on Earth would any community not preserve this & make it a highlight... I diverted off route 66 to see this. It was the only quick visit historical site/item to see, since the community has not preserved much of its old West character or sites. Sadly, the fence around it prevented any good quality pictures- but uts understandable why the femce is there- so it doesn't get destroyed with spray paint & foam like...

Beautiful locomotive. Quick Google search revealed a bit of a tug-of-war between the City of Amarillo and the Amarillo Railroad Museum. Locomotive should definitely be at the museum, regardless of intentions.

Surrounded by chain link. Looks intact, but corrosion is taking a toll. Still has the asbestos lagging, so can only imagine how the boiler looks.

Would be amazing to see Amarillo do what Albuquerque...

Went to see a giant of her time frozen in a state of wasting away. This locomotive was marvel of the time and fascinating to know how many features the queen had. 20,000 gallons of water held in the tank, that is 40-45 bathtubs.

Although this visit was very intuitive, it was more sad than anything because of the Madam Queen is stuck behind fences with bar wire on top. Almost all her history just getting...
