UPDATE 2/12/22: I still have not spoken with anyone from the hotel regarding this incident. They have chosen to ignore multiple messages I left asking them to call me.
I stayed here on 12/29/21 as part of an airline crew. Unfortunately, I ended up getting stuck on the elevator for almost half an hour. The emergency call button went unanswered every time I pushed it. I ended up calling the main hotel number and explained to the woman who answered that I was stuck in the elevator on the 5th floor. She seemed unconcerned about the situation and distracted by other things going on around her. I figured someone would have at least come to the outside of the elevator to at least acknowledge the issue. Nope. After waiting a few more minutes I called her again. I explained that I was getting very claustrophobic. She said that help was on the way but she was having trouble locating her maintenance guy and she wasn’t sure if her boss was still around or not. I heard someone on the outside of the elevator and shouted for help. They said they would go get help for me. After 10 minutes or so, the person came back and said they let someone know I was stuck. No one came. I ended up calling my coworker to see if he could maybe help. Thankfully he was able to mess with the exterior door of the elevator that was partially open which enabled me to push the interior door open. I continued to wait around for someone to show up and to keep any unsuspecting guests from trying to use the elevator. Over half an hour after this ordeal started, the maintenance guy finally showed up with an elevator technician. No one ever did call me back or come to assure me that help was really on the way while I was trapped in the elevator.
Additionally, I was unable to place a to-go order at the restaurant from my room just before I checked out. I called the front desk since there was no direct line to the restaurant and was transferred to the restaurant. It went to their voicemail. I tried calling the front desk back repeatedly but my calls ended up going to voicemail there as well. After I finished getting ready for work, I walked down to the front desk to voice dissatisfaction with my stay. Nicole appeared to be the only one working the desk. She apologized for the inconveniences and said that the restaurant was extremely busy with only one person working there as a hostess/waitress. She also took down my phone number and Bonvoy number and said that she would have her boss contact me regarding the issues I experienced. That was one week ago and I have yet to hear from anyone at The Barfield. I will be happy to update this review once someone from the hotel reaches out to me and rectifies...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A True Texas Gem – The Barfield Autograph Collection, Amarillo, TX||I travel more than 36 weeks a year, and very few hotels stop me in my tracks the moment I walk through the doors—but The Barfield Autograph Collection did exactly that. Within seconds of stepping into the lobby, I knew this place was special.||The atmosphere feels more Texas heritage-meets-modern-luxury than typical hotel. The inlaid bookcase behind the front desk immediately caught my eye, it was warm, sophisticated, and welcoming, like the home library of an old friend. Every design choice tells a story: the soft amber lighting, the dark-wood finishes, and those elevator floors adorned with two beautifully inlaid pistols crossing at the barrel and cowhide accents on the walls, a subtle nod to Texas pride done with refined artistry.||Our guest room was pure comfort wrapped in elegance. The rich dark-blue walls paired with deep brown trim and textured wallpaper created a calm, inviting backdrop. The furnishings were thoughtfully chosen; modern yet cozy, each piece perfectly placed. Even the lamp shades had a Texas touch with cowhide accents. The artwork told the story of the state, and the mini-bar was stocked with care. It wasn’t just a room; it was a retreat.||The restaurant downstairs was equally impressive. From the first bite to the last sip, the food and cocktails reflected the same attention to detail as the rest of the hotel; authentic flavors, beautifully presented, and served by a staff who genuinely love what they do. Every team member we encountered did Texas proud with their warm, attentive, and welcoming countenance. It was clear they were proud to represent The Barfield and enjoyed their jobs. A rare and most appreciate attribute. ||To whoever designed this hotel: bravo. You’ve managed to capture the very soul of Texas, refined, bold, and endlessly welcoming and turn it into a place travelers will never forget.||If you find yourself anywhere near Amarillo, don’t hesitate. Read moreI have chosen to do business with Mariott for 7 years, averaging dozens of nights stay each year. Today, that changed. I will never stay in a mariott again. This decision has to do with personnel at the Barfield in Amarillo. The night manager on duty this evening came across as the most insensitive, less-than-professional individual I have interacted with at any lodging establishment. He chose, through a poor attitude and unwillingness to help us, to forfeit a loyal customer who has stayed approximately 210 nights over these years. I know its not all about how many times I have chosen mariott - I do not have an expectation to be treated any differently than anyone else - I do, however, have the expectation of a company like this to show compassion and understanding when the situation calls for it. I had a great experience with the front desk associate named Cara on the phone last night and tonight. She was very kind and actually used the word 'Dad' when referring to me last night, which made me believe I made the right decision to house my daughter for the night at this exact location as she drives across the country going back to her hometown after the holidays. I was transferred to reservations and spoke to someone I had a difficult time understanding because English was not a primary language. After I got off the phone with reservations, I called Cara back and was assured my daughter would be well taken care of. Unfortunately, she was not taken care of.
We had an issue at check-in and I called Cara and she was very understanding but referred me to the night manager. I had a gut feeling within about 30 seconds that this guy was going to be hard to deal with due to his demeanor. Unfortunately, I was right.
As long as this person (night manager) is employed and responsible for using discretion in handling issues I would not recommend staying here. There are many other quality places to stay in Amarillo, I just chose the wrong one. mariott, you botched this one. But I will not risk you ever botching another experience for me, my employees or our families.
Do yourself a favor and...
