Our go-to spot for delicious sandwiches when in Ann Arbor. We've been going here for 20+ years and it never ceases to impress! They have a huge variety of mostly-sports-themed choices, like "Where's Bo?" and "Mo's Mess". Many of them are served on bread that has been slightly buttered and grilled for crispy-goodness. The meat is very good, almost NY-deli good, and the service is always friendly. There isn't a lot of seating, so if it's crowded, that can be a problem. Our personal favorites are the Grand Daddy's and Amy's Renovation (we both love reuben-style sandwiches). Prices are little high, but it's a huge sandwich with a lot of meat, so $10-$12 isn't horrible. You can easily split one or get the "reduces meat" option so you can actually finish it. And they are all served with an enormous (and crisp) 1/2 dill pickle slice.
Positives: Great NYC-deli style sandwiches, Michigan sports themed (Go Blue!), friendly service, excellent reubens! Negatives: A bit pricey, not a lot of seating (maybe...
Read moreA deli known for it's large and plentiful sandwiches, seems to not stand up to expectations. When first arriving at this destination I was taken aback by the environment - it doesn't invite me in or make me want to stay. The carpet is stained, old, and quite mushy. The walls are thin wood paneling that vibed 60s or 70s - looking tired and in need of a replacement. I was expecting more "team spirit," but got more of a "had" team spirit. The sandwiches were nice quality. My sandwich had a nice crunch from the veg and my meat tasted fresh. The bread was average, but the price of a sandwich were a bit above that. I found that the deli had a lot more lacking than not. The shop needs a major remodel and for it to be called a deli is kind of a stretch; not a wide variety of meats, cheeses, or any other deli-like item caught my attention from the one, sparse, cooler with bar none in it. Overall, decent, but far from any good experience you...
Read moreOk. I'll admit my bias upfront. I've been a fan of U of M since I was 12 yrs old. To find myself in The Holy Land, eating at a place named after the school's colors (on a beautiful sunny day no less), might, just maybe, have influenced my thinking. Now you know. And I was wearing a Michigan shirt at the time. I was actually directed to the place by a sorority girl I gave a ride to. Thank you, Rachel! The woman behind the counter seemed bored, her interactions with myself & others seemed forced. There is outside seating but I stayed inside where it was very quiet. A TV in the corner, with ESPN on, was easily listened to 10 ft. away. The menu is massive! My #8 was fabulous though it took a bit longer to get than I expected. But it was worth the wait. I can definitely see coming back should the forces of nature deem it good. Assuming I can...
