Magnolia provides a wide variety of activities for a wide range of ages. Lots of great books where kids can get their space but still be in earshot of their grownups.
Most importantly (in my opinion), there are a lot of benches in shade, sun, or a mix.
The big open fields are great for kite flying when there aren't soccer games going on.
In non-frozen seasons there are decently maintained portapotties (one at the entrance, and more closer to Thorndike fields where the bike path crosses).
There's even a community bulletin board at the entrance.
