This is not my favorite strip mall. Mind you this review in no way reflects negatively on the businesses within the strip mall. I am reviewing specifically the mall's parking, amenities, features and fixtures in specific.
Getting in and out of this strip mall parking lot is intentionally made difficult apparently to slow traffic down. It's exactly 5th-Wheel or Class-A RV friendly. The area in front of Publix is often congested. For that reason, many savvy residents use the roadish area behind Publix to avoid the worst of the traffic if they are going from the post office to WallMart or even across Atlanta Highway toward downtown Athens.
Night lighting is sufficient. I'd like to see them renovate the parking to include actual trees rather than Crepe Myrtles, and more tree islands to provide actual shade.
This strip mall has a few obligatory tree islands, though the trees are poorly kept and offer almost no shade whatsoever. It's as if they planned these tree islands to be useless, shading only the non-parking areas. It was likely developed before they had to spec trees for strip mall parking lots. Barnes and Noble and Publix are the only "traditional" anchor stores left, and I'm not sure how long B&N will endure due to pandemic times. We shop at Publix regularly, but had I not pulled up a map, I'd not have considered Publix and its separate strip mall area as the part of the L-shaped area I think of as Athens Promenade. Unfortunately, I haven't shopped at B&N in a while. The other anchor stores are Bealls Outlet and Bargain Hunt. Probably the biggest draw is the Chuck E. Cheese's. I've seen a lot of store front names come and go at this strip mall. I didn't think Bargain Hunt would be there long, but it's been a few years, so maybe it will be there a while longer. It used to be a Bed Bath and Beyond. I could be wrong, but it feels like half the store fronts in this mall are empty.
Yes we visit Publix regularly, but if they hadn't moved our post office eight miles away from its original location on Alps Road a few years ago, it's likely we would visit Publix a...
Read moreIf you want to go into a establishment where the employees treat you like family and this is the spot to go. For the last two and a half years I've been going to the Westside bottle shop and have yet to walk out upset or disappointed about anything. 10 times out of 10 I walk out with a smile because they are just the most friendliest, courteous, relaxed, knowledgeable, and all around great people in the store. There's no greater place to go pick up your drinks and leave out with the smile on your face every time. I recommend this place to everyone when you in this city. This should be your first stop coming into the city, and your last stop on your way out of the city. That way as you're entering or exiting you...
Read moreWe visited Athens Promenade with our 3-year-old and 3-month-old and had a fantastic time! The wide, stroller-friendly paths and lively atmosphere made it perfect for a family outing. Our toddler loved watching the street performers and exploring the shops, while we enjoyed the scenic views and relaxing vibe. The promenade had plenty of dining options, making it easy to find something for everyone, even with kids. The welcoming community and vibrant energy made it a memorable experience for all of us. If you’re looking for a family-friendly destination with charm and fun, Athens Promenade is...
