This modern structure is an island of civilization and civility in the middle of blocks of holes in the ground where construction has lingered for five years.
Bravo to the fine public employees and volunteers of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System. I began using this branch when it was named Ida Williams Branch, in a previous structure. I love this structure, but my love is dimmed by the full-length window, now obscured by a housing development across Pharr Road, always bringing ultraviolet light to fade the spines of a shelf of biographies, and the dim overhead lights above the bookshelves, way way up difficult to change without a Genie lift, which makes it difficult to see.
Also difficult to see: items on the bottom shelf, shelved sideways or any old way: there must be a solution for this.
The Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library System, like other public libraries, serves more people more ways in a recession. I am a fan of Children's Services here in particular: always helpful, always available. There's a fine meeting room. I always look at the two shelves of books for sale, to benefit a support group I keep meaning to join.
Meanwhile, here's my thumbs-up for...
Read moreThere was a homeless man telling his story about being homeless then they were closing he was asked to leave the security assisted him on gathering his items to leave the guard was very respectful the man began to curse using profanity there were children in the Library. The guard remained calm. The Library Manager went over the security guards head and said to the homeless man it’s cold outside just wait here sit on the bench in the Lobby.
She didn’t ask him to leave for his horrible language towards her security guard. She didn’t consider the children having to witness this man’s behavior. Instead she pretended to be a good person by helping a homeless man feel protected for verbally abusing an officer and displaying unsafe behavior around children. I’m sure if cameras were watched it would clearly show this woman making a horrible business move. She should be disciplined for her call.
Perhaps she made that choice to add to the disrespect of the security officer and the child that was close enough to hear and be affected by the...
Read moreA society is often judged on its libraries and dedication to learning; this however is a sad, sorry, and pathetic excuse of a “library”. It’s as if the creators/approvers have never seen a nice library in their lives. This brutalist structure is less than inviting from the main entrance and throughout. The city of Buckhead cannot, and should not, be proud of this creation. Is this truly representative of the grandeur, appreciation of artistry, and culture of Buckhead!? Is this the best they could do?? It’s not even 2 stories. There are people living in Buckhead with a larger catalog of books. Grayer than reading Grey’s Anatomy. This looks like what may have been the bare minimum requirements to ensure Buckhead has some sort of “library”. This “library” is not an ode to adventuring young minds, not a testament to humanity’s capabilities, and definitely not doing justice to the history of Buckhead. Also there was a homeless man rigorously masterbating in the men’s bathroom, utilizing...
