Visiting Catalina Island for three nights so being a couple, we decided we wanted to rent a golf cart to see more of the island. We did a driving tour the day before so we saw deeper into the mountains, but we really wanted to rent a cart to take our time closer to Avalon and see more local sights. A lot of the negative reviews of this place seem to be from middle aged and older ladies who had a bad customer experience. I think that is an important part of any transaction, but I think the service rendered is more important than the attitude of the staff. Their job is to rent you your cart and intake it not really deal with customers like a hotel or restaurant would. We rented a golf cart for an hour and it was $65 cash for the deposit and $65 for the rental. When you return the rental you get your $65 back in cash unless you go over your time limit and then they take out part of the cash for the late fee. I would recommend renting it for two hours if you want to see all the sites though. We drove around the entire yellow route, but there was not enough time to stop at the botanical gardens without being late past the hour. I would say you need at least 90 minutes minimum to see everything but two hours would just be more convenient. They have four and six seater carts available at different price rates and honestly, even though there is a long line sometimes it moves quickly because they have a lot of carts to rent. This place is very busy all day so they really specialize in getting people in and out which I think is where some of the negative reviews came from. These people are just trying to hustle and service as many customers as possible. For high-level service seek that on the mainland or in more refined establishments. I would recommend and would rent this place again next time I’m on the island.

Writing this review as a warning. I would strongly recommend renting from a different golf cart company. The entire process dealing with this company is one of the most mentally exhausting 1 hour processes of my life. It's total and complete chaos of employees yelling all around you, being extremely rude, and treating people disrespectfully. I watched one worker tell multiple people in line that their English was not good enough and to leave. I've never seen anything like that in my life. I could not believe it. The workers were so rude, and clearly hate working with the public. Absolutely terrible customer service. I will note this only applies to the workers when you're in line or during payment. The workers running the actual golf carts and showing you to your assigned cart were great. The whole payment process is overly complicated for no reason. $65 deposit cash and $65 credit. That is total nonsense. We returned our cart at 59 minutes and 21 seconds (I ran a stop watch as soon as we pulled away because I could see so many upset people when I left) and I could tell the guy at the back desk was thinking about charging me for the extra hour. Ultimately he gave me back the $65, but I saw people before me lose their $65 for being 5-10 minutes over the hour and a few after me. I understand, but great customer service isn't going to charge people an entire extra $65 for 5 minutes more. Whoever runs this business clearly only cares about money, and not about training their staff in customer service. I would return to Catalina Island again, but I would never return and do business at this location. I'm not alone, look at all the other negative reviews.

Terrible experience with extremely rude manager. When I asked for her first and last name she gave me, "Karen M." She would not give me her last name. We were there for the day ported from a cruise ship on Tuesday, August 15th. We were told about an hour wait for a 6 seat cart. So, my husband took our friend that was with us next door to buy her a drink. The drink came with a straw hat which he wore. Him and I do not drink! When we came to get our cart we were refused service because the manger told us that "anyone affiliated with that hat and that bar is not permitted to take a golf cart because they are suspected of drinking and that someone died on one of their carts"!!!!!!!!!! Even when we told her we don't drink she said she didn't care - that was her policy. Are you the police? LOL. First of all, again we (my husband and I) do not drink and would have been the operators of the vehicle). Second, I took a picture of their policy which just states that no open or closed containers. Our friend had that drink an hour prior to us checking in when we were called for the cart. I heard this company discriminates against people of color through other reviews. I'm wondering if this was more than just a policy the manager doesn't understand and how unprofessional to tell possible clients in front of other renters that someone died on their carts! My friend and her family were with us. Maybe this was another form of discrimination because my friend is gay and had her wife with her. No matter what the manager was unprofessional, and so terribly rude.

My 1st time visiting Catalina and it was my birthday so I was so excited! I came with my family (total of 7) the parasail company recommended this business to us because they said they had a cart that would fit all of us. When we got there they said the largest was a 6 seater so we paid for two 4 seaters. We filled the paperwork out and paid in cash(you have to pay in cash). When we went outside the guy was very aggressive and impatient. He said we needed to hurry up and move our carts because they were very business. Mind you no one was outside beside our large group so we weren’t impeding or preventing anyone else from getting their golf carts. And it just so happened our golf carts were the 1st and 2nd in the row so there wasn’t another cart behind us and they don’t move the carts out for you. We got on the carts and one of my passengers had a cup of ice with her and the guy asked if she had alcohol with her. Of course she didn’t because they told us before boarding and while on the board we couldn’t walk around with any. She dumped her cup of ice and he picked it up and smelled it and went insides and told the people she had alcohol. Now she did have a drink on the boat and didn’t rinse her cup out before refilling it with ice at the restaurant it there was no liquid or alcohol in her cup when she dumped it for him to see, it was all ice.. She wasn’t driving either of the golf carts , I was(the birthday girl) and my godsister drove the 2nd one.. no one else had cups or bottles but they kicked us off the carts and canceled our rides. While we were inside complaining another party(two older black couples) were getting on their golf carts and the same guy asked what was in their bags. They had closed containers not even opened and they were kicked off. When we confronted the staff they said they only cancel contracts if it’s an open container. They insisted they do not check bags but the guy outside did(FYI we didn’t have nor did the other party but the only thing we had in common was we were all black all the staff were Latin or Hispanic) so disappointing. I don’t play the race card but when it’s apparent it’s apparent!! To my dismay I saw a white couple get on a cart with bags and coolers and the guy(same guy who said we couldn’t take the carts) never asked them if they had alcohol smh. Please don’t patronize this business go the golf cart rental near the boarding area and ask for Angelica she was so friendly and we were able to enjoy our golf cart scenic route tour on my birthday without any...

Uh! This thing of not letting us rent a cart ruined our entire experience and mini vacation. Why go to an island of you're going to be forced to just stay around shops and bars but not able to do or explore anymore. Me and my group wanted to rent a cart it was like 10 of us. We were going to get 2 golf carts. One of my friends had a straw hat that another friend bought off the island (inside joke between them). One of my friends was wearing the hat when we went to rent the carts. The lady at the front said we couldn't rent any because she knew we just came from a bar and we're drinking. She couldn't have known this at all, unless she saw us come out of the bar. We told her no, that we just came from eating and that bar has been closed, we haven't even set foot in it yet. And we bought the hat. Apparently the bar has that "same" hat and they give it to you if you win their drinking game. which we did not play or "win". The friend that was wearing the hat at the time wasn't even going to be driving. Which we explained. They told us to try somewhere else we did and the same thing happens. I think the lady called the other rental spot and told them not to let us rent a cart. Cause he told us the same thing AFTER...the person there was getting ready to rent to 4 ppl in our group. He looked at the rest of us and said no..sorry "I just saw you come out of this bar ..".. WHAT??? (The bar is not visible from that spot and it's on the other side. we had already left the hat somewhere else

At this point we're not sure if they discriminated against us..my 4 ppl that they were going to rent too are Hispanic but look very white. The rest of us look Hispanic or other ppl of color. But we noticed they didn't want to rent out to other ethnic groups on the presumption that they had been "drinking".

It's an island..everyone is drinking at some point of their trip.

So we were forced too stay and just bar hop until our boat arrived back. Which was boring and lame..we wanted to sight see, especially for the people who had never been on the island. Months of planing and waiting we're waisted I'm not planning on...

0 STARS! CROOKS! Staff that work with the return of carts were absolutely rude and did not care that they were rude. They seem to know they will have plenty of business and did not care to provide decent customer service. As soon as we were driving into the lot to return the cart, you can tell that one of the staff was already looking for “something”. They called Agustin, who seemed to be a contracted mechanic by the rental facility. While walking over, he rudely asked us what we hit. We looked at each other baffled. We did not hit anything. Agustin kept stating he was a trained mechanic and accused us of hitting something. He went on to show us “proof” in the tire which we saw no unique difference to the other tires but he swore he could see it. Then he said the wheels were not angled the same. Yes they were when we inspected it. He could not actually show us anything obvious that was damaged. Just kept questioning why we couldn’t see the proof in the tire?? He and the other staff gave an automated speech about how he charges $90/hr for labor but they will give us a deal for $20 for part (bent arm knuckle) and $20 for his labor. At the check out, the staff was giving the exact same speech to a group of Asian tourists. Same part, same price, same $90/hr labor but will give you deal for $20 part and $20 labor. The group were rightfully confused and upset. They did not understand the charge as well. It seemed apparent to us the rental staff and mechanic were profiling and charging a bogus damage fee to unsuspecting tourists. This seemed like a common practice given the staff provided the exact same speech without even looking at the customers. Automated. The staff made the rental experience so awful. I asked them to let me see the broken part but they said the cart was already taken to be repaired and there was nothing they could do to provide proof of what damage I was actually paying...
