This was a great museum! My friend and I came in during a weekend trip for my birthday. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the exhibits. Most of the staff/volunteers we interacted with were helpful and friendly. Free admission was wonderful!
That being said, I was a bit turned off by one of the staff members. We were in the Dennis Evans and Nancy Mee exhibit upstairs. We spent about 15-20 mins in the room, walking around and looking at everything. The staff member in the room ignored us, which I thought was odd, since normally museum staff love to start conversations with guests. I figured maybe she was just shy or busy. However, while we were in there, an older couple came in. They followed the same path around the room that I did and looked at the same art I did. But when THEY walked up to one particular piece of art that was right next to the staff member's desk, she immediately struck up a conversation with them; she asked their opinion on the art and gave them some more info about the piece. She had a friendly conversation with them for several minutes. But she ignored us the whole time. My friend and I are in our mid 20s, and I honestly can't help but feel like this was an issue with our ages or something. I would have loved to talk to the staff member about the art I...

Read moreThere was a small multi-media show in adjoining spaces on the ground floor, technically and intellectually sophisticated. The clown motif is kind of creepy to me, but maybe not to you. Be sure to go upstairs to see the folded paper art, like pop-up greeting cards taken to the ultimate extreme and beyond.
The gift shop is very well stocked. We found a lovely porcelain bowl with an Orca pattern and took it home. Thanks, BIMA!
In our day as walk-on ferry passengers from Seattle and as pedestrian tourists, the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art was a "must see." We have driven past it so many times on our trips to the San Juan Islands and to destinations such as Sequim and Port Townsend.
You really should allocate an afternoon to walking around Bainbridge and having lunch. We've had several top quality meals there over the years.
There's an artists' collective shop where we never fail to find a treasure to take home. On the north end of the island, the Bloedel Preserve is well worth the time, too....
