Given a limited floorspace because of its townhouse structure, Blue Door has overcome that and other potential handicaps by presenting some bonafide artists and limited numbers of their creation in what I would call "big museum style". Each show has beautifully done full color cards produced with samples of the art as well as the artist biography so that patrons can walk home with clearly illustrated likenesses. Inside the gallery, the artists' names are painted on the wall above their works as well as a title or theme of their exhibit. As an example, Baltimore artist Scott Ponemone's exhibit area was graced by his name and the title "Planets". The pieces shown were various cloud patterns along with different borders displaying replicated architectural patterns associated with those cultures. It was a fascinating unification of the ethereal and human products of man's mind.
I will go back to Blue Door when I see something which appeals. The gallery also served beverages for the afternoon show and two very fine electric guitarists filled the sidewalk in front of the gallery with patrons and neighbors who loved the jazz improvisations by the musicians. Read morePart of a recent trend of private residences that offer public art exhibitions and events, this exciting new gallery in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore shows powerful work by some of the area's most impactful contemporary artists. Each exhibit features work by one or two artists for approximately one month, with a special public event at the opening and closing of each show. (Additional viewings are available by appointment.) The brainchild of artist and filmmaker Scott Phillip Goergens and his husband Scott Howard, the gallery shows approximately 12 artists per year, including at least one show per year of Goergens' imaginative, bizarre, and utterly charming paintings.
