Great non-alcoholic hangout spot! I visited Root City while looking for non-alcoholic options, and it did not disappoint. The service was excellent — the staff explained the concept of kava root and even offered us a free trial shell to experience it firsthand. One of the drinks I ordered was too sweet for me, and they were super kind about it — they made me a different one from the menu with no extra charge. That kind of customer care really stood out. Around 9pm, they did a group ā€œBulaā€ moment where everyone raised their glasses and took a kava shot together — It was a fun, welcoming vibe that made the experience feel communal. Definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a chill, non-alcoholic option with great energy and thoughtful service. Bonus: They have an arcade room

What a gem! Stunning building, friendly and knowledgeable team, and tasty kava. My friends and I were too late for the cafe, but the 2nd floor kava bar/lounge and 3rd floor kava bar and game room was plentiful. This team shared the ethical practices of harvesting the kava root, and the culture of kava with us, they even went as far as to make sure you didn’t have a shell alone (part of the practice)! Root City Kava is a hidden gem for now, but it won’t be for long so if you want to say ā€œwe saw them firstā€ get there now!

I had the chance to visit the newly opened coffee house in Mount Vernon and was actually the second customer through the door. So far, I’m really impressed. I only grabbed a cup of coffee, but I explored all the floors—and the decor and unique concepts on each level definitely make this place stand out. It’s a fresh, exciting addition to the neighborhood that’s well worth checking out. Can’t wait to come back on a Sunday and hang out playing video games!"

Root City Kava Bar & Lounge is a hidden gem in Baltimore! My wife and I had an incredible experience here—from the relaxing kava cafĆ© and botanical-infused mocktails to the retro gaming arcade that had us all racing in Mario Kart. The atmosphere is welcoming, creative, and full of good vibes.

What sets this place apart is the heart behind it. Nick and Megan Patrick have poured their passion into creating a unique and community-focused space. The Key Bridge mural makes for an awesome photo spot, and the coffee bar is one of the best in the city.

Root City is a must-visit whether you’re looking for a place to unwind, hang out with friends, or enjoy a non-alcoholic nightlife vibe. Highly recommend stopping by for a mocktail, some good conversation, and a little...

I’m visiting from Florida, where Kava bars are everywhere. Up here in the Mid-Atlantic, it’s a whole different story. After searching all over, I found Root City Kava Bar in Baltimore—and it turned out to be the only real Kava bar anywhere near this region.

Even though Baltimore isn’t technically part of the DMV, it was the closest I could find, and I drove an hour and a half each way just to get there. Totally worth it. The drinks were strong, the vibe was laid-back, and the staff knew their stuff. You can tell they take pride in creating a true Kava experience.

If you're anywhere in Maryland or visiting nearby, this is the place to go. I was seriously impressed and glad I made the trip.

Highly recommend. I’ll definitely be coming back...
