Are you thinking of taking this tour? DO IT!! Don't hesitate, since it's very difficult to score a reservation.
We've been Disney fans for years - started visiting the parks decades ago, and have read a LOT of the history of the organization, yet we still learned so much. Our guide, Megann, was terrific. She has a wealth of knowledge from years of Disney experience in several different positions. She never, ever hesitated to answer guests' questions - and our group had many!
There is a lot of walking and standing on this tour, so do keep that in mind. We toured in summer, it is HOT and HUMID in Florida at this time of year, but Megann made sure to find shade for us any time we stood to discuss the sights.
The visits "behind the scenes" were so informative and special. I won't say much, so as not to spoil the surprises. Suffice to say you never know what you will see! Be prepared, though - no photos of any kind; cell phones, cameras, etc. MUST be put away before entering any backstage area. No exceptions, which is 100% understandable.
We had the opportunity to experience two rides: Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansion. Although we've done both several times over the years, it's a different experience after learning all the secrets and stories of the attractions. Plus - no waiting at all in any line!
Lunch was provided for us at the Columbia Harbor House. Selections are limited, but the food is good. If you get a salad, ask for dressing on the side. The lobster roll looks scrumptious!
Don't worry if you have an early tour say 8 am, before the official park opening. Main Street USA actually opens at 7:45, and even if you're a little far back in the entry line, you'll make it. The meeting spot, Town Square Theatre, is right inside the gate. The tour won't leave without you (unless you are a big-time straggler).
The Keys to The Kingdom tour is worth every penny - no matter how much you think you know about Disney, you'll come away having learned some of the very special "little known facts" that serve to make this magical place all the...
Read moreWe took the Keys to the Kingdom Tour on a Saturday in April. I have been to Disney over 20 times, and this was my first time taking this tour. I had a lot of background knowledge on Disney going into this tour, and I still found myself learning things that I didn't know, which was great!!
I loved the backstage areas. Learning about all the small details that go into the running of the park was very interesting. There were plenty of visuals. The utilidor section at the end was really neat to see. Lots of walking (which, I don't mind at all) though in the utilidor part there was a lot of just standing listening for long periods which did make my lower back fairly painful. It would be nice to have benches along the wall or something.
Our tour guide, I think her name was Kelsey, was fabulous, she did a great job!! We chose our meals at the beginning, which was nice for efficiency. However, no one in my party eats seafood, and 5 of the options at Columbia Harbour house were seafood... not a huge deal, but it would be nice to at least have 2 options.
We ate our food in a nice reserved section of the restaurant upstairs. It was nice to have our own dedicated space, so I loved that.
This tour also included 2 rides. Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise, which are great choices! We learned lots of history on both rides. Jungle Cruise, we actually had things pointed out to us while on the ride, which was a nice touch.
All the staff was wonderful and the tour ran like a well-oiled machine. I'm so glad I went and will recommend it to others who really...
