It doesn't feel like a visit to the Magic Kingdom would be complete with a ride on the Jungle Cruise. Located in Adventure Land the ride mimics cruising down rivers in Asia, Africa, and South America in a 1930'a tramp steamer. Along with animatronic animals and jungle scenery you are regaled with corny jokes and puns which haven't changed since I was a kid, here are the butterflies they have a wing span of 12 inches to one foot!.
I hadn't been on the Jungle Cruise in years so although I knew a bit about the ride there were some things I had forgotten. Things like how slow loading this ride is creating long lines. We didn't have a fast pass so we opted to wait in the stand by line which reported a wait time of one hour. An hour and a half later we hadn't gotten through even half the line and we bailed. I asked for the manager who relayed to me that the inflated wait time was beyond their control and due to the Pirates of the Caribbean breaking down next door. This was the closest I came to having anyone at Disney lose their cool with me. I was then lectured that the rides at Disney were much more reliable than the ones at Universal. My Disney experience this trip was quite the opposite with 2 to 3 rides down in the park at any given time. In any case the manager ponied up the coveted paper fast pass which allowed us to return to fast pass line later where the wait was a much more reasonable 15 minutes. The other thing I had forgotten about the ride was the racist depiction of Africans as savages. Even my teenager cringed at that scene. The Jungle cruise is in need of an update and it looks like it's getting one. The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, has just announced he will star in the movie based on the ride. Apparently he is in talks with Disney's imagineers to redesign the ride in conjunction...
Read moreI honestly can't say that it's a timeless ride. It's purely meant for laughs, and amusement. It's an easy boat ride as you journey through a jungle river to view animatronic jungle creatures in their fantasy habitat. You do hear and see some actual birds every now and then. It's fun when you have a seasoned skipper that delivers lines with great comedic timing. With that said, Skipper Matt was so awesome! This was probably the best Jungle Cruise ride I've had in my lifetime. Yes, I know it's scripted. But, it's all in the delivery. He just happened to pull it off perfectly.
I'm not sure that I saw any changes to this ride. The line is still long, but it's shaded. Just check the app when the wait time is low. The water has always been a murky green. They still fill the boat up to capacity. The last person on the boat gets the honor of sitting on the step where every other foot has trampled on. Fortunately, I found a nice space to sit across from that step that was in the middle of the boat. Yay!
All in all, it's a relaxing ride in a shaded boat. You get to see the backside of water, which actually looks the same as the frontside. There's a cool mist from the waterfall. It takes about 10 minutes to ride, and maybe 5 minutes to disembark depending on how many riverboats are in front of you. This is when your skipper shines even more. The cast member has to come up with more scripted jokes to pass the time away. They interact with you as well. It's...
