It’s a nice bookstore, big and open, and well designed. But honestly it’s such a mess, and there’s so much extra non-book merchandise that it feels really hard to get to the actual books. None of the sections are well organized and the shelves are a mess, with books falling all over the place and sometimes just stacked up randomly. I don’t think anyone has gone through to make sure things are well put together in years, seems like they just throw things on the shelves Willy-nilly. It’s probably because they don’t let their employees do anything except stand behind the registers and sell the membership and magazines. That’s the most annoying thing is the store forcing it’s workers to sell the membership subscription and a predatory magazine subscription. The membership is fine, though it’s a bit hassling to have to say no three or four times to the salesperson before they accept it, only to have to start saying no all over again to the magazines. And those are annoying cause they say they’re they’re three free magazines but it you don’t call and cancel it charges you a bunch of money for three separate subscriptions. So that’s both annoying and just plain sneaky. It would be nice too if they had some places to sit and hang out, they used to have chairs and tables and do all kinds of cool author events that it seems like they’ve just ditched. Overall it would be a nicer bookstore if they employees didn’t have to badger us at the checkout (not blaming the employees, just the managers and company that im sure push it on them) and if they bothered to organize the...
Read moreI understand that a Google review may not be the place for this situation but Books & Co have put me in a nightmare situation with magazine companies. The employee at the checkout had me select 3 free magazine issues to receive via mail. This employee did go over the process of canceling the subscriptions if I did not wish to continue receiving these issues since not doing so would result in more issues being received and charges being made to your bank account. However, this process seemed not to work and I have been in a several month long mess of contacting these companies individually and making sure my accounts are terminated and it seems like all of them have not worked the first time as I was still receiving issues and charges to my account. I was just charged $38.70 for another payment to Good Housekeeping, one of the magazines I had selected, and again I had to contact the company to see about canceling my subscription and refunding any money taken for pending issues. I understand that Books & Co employees may receive some type of commision incentive for selling these free magazines but it is highly unnecessary and annoying to deal with it. Please assess this deal and/or point me in the direction of somebody who will help me make sure this...
Read moreThe place is really big and nice, very organized, however, the reason for the 1 star review was because upom checking out my 3 items, cashier told me I get to pick 3 free magazines, handed me a pen to encircle 3. Was surprised by it to be honest, but then I figured out it was a subscription and I told her I didn't want to get subscription for magazines. I then proceeded and waiting for her to check out but I noticed the balance to pay was higher than it seemed and asked her why and she said that she have already got me into another subscription I believe it was something like books in a million promos or discount member subscription which again I did not ask to sign up for. It is very shady to sign up buying customers to a subscription they are not trying to purchase and automatically add it to their total like a scam. The books are also very expensive in this store to be honest, I bought 3 items to support the store but scamming me at check out is definitely not cool. It made the whole experience...
