AMAZING! I am not even that well versed in tech, just very curious and love learning new things. This museum is truly amazing if you have any remote interest in the history of technology, engineering, or TV (a lot of these machines were used in early television)! They have stuff from early 60s and so on.
The best part is that the volunteer tour guides are truly great, making sure to give you all the details and fun first-hand stories you want to know about each piece of tech there, and YOU GET TO PLAY WITH THE EQUIPMENT! So cool, really, to play around with a theremin or see how keyboard notes look on one of the oscilloscopes, see how different colors are observed on an oscilloscope, or type on a computer from the 70s! See the insides of the machines, how we went from all these wires to these tiny circuit boards...
Just all around so amazing and educational, you WILL learn something here no matter your previous experience in this sort of thing! The website is awesome, but absolutely worth going in person if you can.
You can come in any time open on Saturday or you can email another time and they will arrange it! Super nice staff, I just loved this so much! If you're anywhere...
Read moreI visited the Tek museum a few months back, and had a great time being shown around by the folks who volunteer there: It's amazing to talk to people who worked first-hand in laying the foundations of modern computing and test equipment. It's certainly worthwhile to visit and take a tour of all the cool stuff Tek made, and talk to the volunteers there about their experiences in engineering.
Since this visit, I've started acquiring my own older Tek scopes, including a 547, and, most recently, a 7934. This in addition to my MSO2024 modern workhorse that I use daily. There's something very satisfying about using the 547 in 2018, and it does just as fine a job now as it...
Read moreNo wait, no fee, all oscilloscope fun. What you're looking at here is a room full of Tektronix history in a week thought out presentation. You don't have to know much about any of it and the guides will fill you in. It's very niche, so don't expect omsi level of activities. But if you love old tubes and very specific devices and people with a passion to tell you about it then this is well worth the few hours on Saturday you can spend here. Tom was our guide and Tom coincidentally is my brother name who came with me....
