If I could leave a zero it would be the most appropriate score for this establishment. First, after moving here to Portland two years ago we were excited to get our passport and visit the prior location to its current which appears to be a train wreck when it comes to service. After our experience tonight, and now reading the previous reviews you would think that there would be some changes. But obviously not. It seems that whatever ails this location, is a virus that has not gone away. Same servers and the same attitude seem to plague. After working a 12-hour shift and deciding to go over and enjoy happy hour we were asked to leave within five minutes because the bartender thought we were intoxicated and one of us slurring our words. Never in my life have I ever been asked to leave an establishment, especially a bar/restaurant. Never in my fiance's life has she ever been discriminated against as she has a hearing impairment which can come out sounding like her words are being slurred. How shameful and embarrassing McMenamins!!! We understand the right to refuse service, but we established normal communication with the bartender and it seemed apparent that she didn't want to serve from the get-go. Even to the point that she actually did serve a sample beer before refusing a service, and if she thought we were intoxicated why would she let us get in our cars? It is too bad I didn't video tape this or perhaps ask to use the bathroom like Starbucks and be refused and this would be on the national news. We simply left without a scene, dumbfounded by the accusation based on no merit other than an immature and unprofessional conclusion. It is my hopes that a call to corporate to enlighten them on the reviews here might make some change and at least get rid of the bartender and manager who simply said on the phone after leaving how sorry she was of how embarrassed we were. Again let me be clear here. We in no way we're showing any evidence of yelling, cussing or any rude temperament towards anyone. We simply wanted a beer and we're trying to decide. Obviously, they are not going to shut down McMenamins because of one or several bad reviews, but at least if you're reading this it might bring attention to the fact that there are other places to be a patron and not be treated this way. You can be assured that this location is off our list, and we'll be happy to drive the extra 10 to 15 minutes to our other favorite location and enjoy conversation and not be refused service. We actually were planning to visit another McMenamins establishment after our wedding, so we better be sure not to go in to happy and elated because we might be refused service.
Addendum. As stated, I was going to follow through in contacting corporate. I kindly stated our experience and was told that they will get in touch with the manager, and the manager will contact me back. We'll see if there's any...
Read moreI'm not an alcohol-drinker -in fact I despise the very existence of all forms of alcohol, as well as most people who consume the crap.
That being said, pardon the profanity, but to paraphrase Michael Jordan...it must "shock the ** (snuffalopogus) out of the readers who are analyzing my review to learn that I would EVER frequent such as place as McMenamins.
Well, the only reason why I frequented this place recently is because a friend of mine (he's a young geezer who does drink alcohol) dragged me to this place. I couldn't refuse his offer, because if I had, he would've ceased to be my friend...and he also was paying for my meal.
The McMenamins pub in Cedar Hills is located immediately to the north of Winco. I was shocked that I had NEVER seen this pub until recently as I have walked to Winco and all around CedarHills Crossing many times; but McMenamins is somewhat difficult to see amidst all the cars in the parking lots.
The inside of this pub -although it is frequented by "alcohol"-guzzlers- has a very nice vibe that even a "Mormon boy" like me does not find "uncomfortable" or "detestable" whatsoever. The interior is fairly spacious -more so than the exterior would suggest- and is very ornately designed with many hanging plants on rafters below the ceiling.
I gather that the selection of "spirits" (or is it "demons?")of this restaurant is voluptuous and diverse from what I could ascertain by looking at the menu -though THIS Mormon boy don't much care for that crap.
The 'food menu' isn't nearly as voluptous as the "spirits" menu...but is (barely) acceptable in terms of the number of menu items and variety: There is a couple handfuls of different types of sandwiches, a decent selection of salads, as well as other meals to select from.
My "Aztec salad" was somewhat spartan and too simple in terms of amount of ingredients and full-bodies taste but it was still"okay," nonetheless. My friend ordered a "fish and chips" with cole slaw and his meal looked like it was of much higher quality than mine. The burgers that I saw waitresses carrying to customers also looked tantalizing and of high quality. The sauces included on the table (dijon mustard and McMenamins own brand of ketchup) were the best of any brand that I have ever sampled in my life.
Even though I'm a "bona fide" legitimate alcohol-hater, I definitely ironically would likely give McMenamins another try -given the "vibe" of this pub as well as other factors- and would not mind frequenting this place at least one...
Read moreWent here for the first time tonight at the recommendation of family. We were a party of 7. Showed up just a little before an hour of closing. Our waitress had a poor attitude right from the get. Rushed us for drink orders. Drinks took a little bit but showed up eventually. We ordered a bunch of apps and those came out within a timely manner. A couple people at our table needed drink refills, and waited quite awhile before refills were offered. Wed probably been here for half an hour by this point. Our main meal order was finally taken, and we proceeded to wait what felt like forever for our food...11pm (closing time) literally came around and we still did not have any of the food that we ordered. During this time, another group that came in AFTER us, had ordered, received, and eaten the entirety of their meal. We were honestly about to just walk. Our waitress finally informed us that our food would be ready in a few minutes. By this point, we were all basically fed up, and tired. So we asked for all our food to go. The only positive was that 50$ worth of items (I think the cost of our drinks perhaps) was comped from our bill. The service was completely horrendous, and the food wasn't anything to rave about either. I got the fish and chips. I got 2 small little filets of fish, and over cooked fries. My husband got the steak and fries and his steak was also, over cooked. This most likely occurred due to the fact that the kitchen seemingly had to rush out our food that they'd failed to cook in the first place. We won't be returning, at least, not to this...
