We had a fun time as a family as our only way to experience snow this winter. We went at the end of February. There are two hills across the street from each other, one more steep and bumpy than the other. There is a shop nearby to purchase sleds. On the first day, the snow was pretty good, and we got some distance. On the second day, the less steep slope was half mud and had a large hole in the middle. The other slope was fully snow with one side fairly smooth, and the other a bit rough with a big drop off the sides into the fence and a couple huge bumps and holes. It was a lot of fun as long as you get up and away at the bottom and keep an eye out for the kids that jump in front of you or don’t move out of the way. The parking lot is rough (shared with bus pickup for the ski mountain) - covered in large stones and ruts making it hard to get in and risking tearing up the car, people were making another row behind cars near us blocking them in, and we got stuck in mud trying to get out.

This is a great place to bring the kids and let them lose in the snow. To make sure your trip is a success, please call the number listed above and ask if the sledding hill has snow. If the conditions are good, the staff will set a snow machine and keep it cranked to ensure the hill is perfect. Until 5 pm there is staff looking up if someone get injured or need help. Notice that parents should be watching their kids all the time as no one is responsible for injuries. Our kids did great and they had so much fun.

The Beech Mountain town sledding hill is a fantastic affordable way to spend an afternoon in the winter months. We parked in the paid parking across the street ($3 at the time) but that was the only cost. Even though it was a warm day, they still had lots of snow - but make sure you check the cams first before making the trip! Follow up with some pizza at the nearby restaurant and you have the makings for the perfect day for your kiddos. We took our daughter here last year and she can’t wait to go back!

Had a great time at the Beech Mountain Free Sledding Hill! It was so much fun, and the crowd was fantastic—everyone was in a good mood and sharing the excitement. The hill itself is perfect for sledding and offers a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.

Only downside was the parking lot—unfortunately, there was quite a bit of garbage left around by previous visitors. It’s disappointing to see that, but I understand that the trash cans were locked up, which probably contributed to the mess. Still, a small issue compared to the overall experience!

Highly recommend checking it out if you're...

My kids love this place! Best for kids around 14 and under. Snow is made for the hill when temperature is right for it. Its free. Refreshing to see a park-like sledding area with plenty of parking across the street. Bringing your own sled is a must and reasonably priced plastic ones work very well, and can be found at the grocery store in the area. The slope has a few bumpy elements creating a fun filled ride. At the end of the sledding hill are cushion pads present to decrease harsh impact when kids come barrelling down the...
