[Edited 11.16.2018 per response from business]
Their reply to this post, while detailed, is also partially misleading. I never claimed that I couldn't walk out of the store to begin with. Instead, what I said was that I noticed the blade while on the slopes. Neither I, nor the staff, were aware of a blade in my boot when I walked out of the store.
We were specifically told we could bring the rental equipment back the following morning as long as we did so by 10AM, so their claiming that I called at the last minute to say I couldn't bring the gear back the same day is a bold faced lie. They agreed to this option before I ever left the store.
I showed them the blade when I returned the following morning, the employees had eyes on it. It is true that I kept the blade for myself. I never said I was happy with the resolution, which is why I was given the store owner's number, so I could reach out for further discussion. If accepting their refund in the store meant that I was somehow releasing them of any responsibility, this was not communicated to me at the time.
Regardless of whether or not you agree with what went down, this is the type of response you should expect from this business when something goes wrong. Completely your call if this is important to you or not.
-- Be extremely careful with the gear here! I don't think I've ever given a 1 star review in my life, but my experience here was truly dreadful.
I rented out ski gear and found a box cutter blade in my boot. By the time I realized it was there, I had already been up and down the mountain a couple of times, while the blade burrowed its way through my ski sock and cut my toe. Fortunately, I was able to walk just fine, but God only knows what kind of infection I may have gotten as a result.
I called the ski shop to give them a heads up that I needed to discuss this once I returned the gear. The shop manager was nice, but did say that he's only authorized to refund my rental fee and replace my cut-up bloody socks. Why the owner wasn't there to discuss, I will never understand. I was given her number and told she's the one I needed to speak to if I was still unsatisfied. I don't think $50 and a measly "yeah, sorry that happened to you" was good enough (maybe I'm too picky).
I got on the phone with the owner and one of the first things she said to me was “how do we know you didn’t put the blade in yourself?”
We weren't able to resolve everything during that first phone call and after trying to contact them multiple times since then, it's been radio silence. Do yourself a favor and rent somewhere else. Clearly they don't inspect their equipment closely enough before they sell it to you, don't take a chance if you...
Read moreI'm only giving this place one star because you can't leave a review with zero stars. Actually upon initial arrival of the staff was friendly and helpful. I brought 10 people and to rent equipment and purchase additional items like gloves and hats.and as we were leaving the staff suggested that we could bring the equipment back the following morning as opposed to bringing it back late in the evening the night before. Half of our group got to the shop early at 9:40 am and return their equipment with no problem the other half which was myself return to the shop at 10:10 AM to return our equipment. The manager said that the cut off was 10:00 AM even though the staff did not tell us any specific time. They then proceeded to charge me an extra half day rental fee. I went back to speak with the manager and she basically told me that it was due back by 10 no matter what and that she was going to enforce the charges. I explained to her that given an exact time and truthfully we were only 10 minutes behind her perceived cut off time of 10 o'clock and she then told me that she only told one person in our group that they could bring it back in the morning and not me basically undermining everything her staff said. She then got angry at me and followed me out of the building in a threatening manner I believe this person was the owner or top manager she was hostile and did not want to hear what I have to say. Needless to say I will never do business at that place again. It's unfortunate because I have been there three years in a row and rented from them but you can bet I...
Read moreThere were no sleds for rent or sale when we arrived, which is to be expected in the middle of the season. The problem arises when a staff member assures you a week before this happens on the phone that there is absolutely no way that they will run out of sleds: “even if none are available for rent, we have 6500 of them for sale for $12...” When we arrived we were told that some of their rental sleds have been stolen right after Christmas. The phone conversation with the staff member occurred at least 8-10 days after that. When we expressed our disappointment, the staff member (Emily, maybe?) suggested another place, even called them, but there were no sleds available, right after that she lost her patience with us rather quickly and suggested that we should leave... We were simply trying to find out if they expected sleds to start “coming back” soon. Finally, the manager told us where we can rent sleds - White Wolf (walking distance from the place) and we did. Had a great time sledding for several hours afterwards. There is another rental place - Fred’s. Vacation places will never be known for great customer service, but it’d be nice if some things, like good manners, patience and respect, were present in any business. Since we ended up not renting anything from them, we can not review the condition of...
