Store is heading south. Messy racks, packages on the floor, it looks like the store has its best years behind it. Would I shop here? Maybe, if the other Indian grocery on Hillsdale doesn't carry what I want.
Update: Remains mediocre. Goods on shelf's messed up in some places, freezer has liquids on the floor with product packs, it's not nice. Then, they throw trash out front, with pigeons having a party (see photo). I wonder if the health department has an opinion. The owners, not the employees, need to spend a few weeks in the store.
Update April 13th: Saw a significant improvement in the store. Much better than before. Much cleaner, no boxes lying around in the aisles, shelves are mostly tidy. A person claiming to be a partner in the business was welcoming the very few customers coming in (as opposed to the store on Hillsdale, which was so busy we couldn't find parking there, which is why we ended up here). They were offering eat-in free tea (!), as well as Hyderabad -style pani puri (not free). Pani puri was ok. Store is much cleaner now. The aisles appear twice as wide because there are no cardboard boxes lying around, no more puddles of stuff lying at the bottom of the refrigerated section. Shelves are well stocked. As well, plenty of parking space, which is really a huge competitive advantage over the Hillsdale store. If they are able to keep improving, I think they will begin to attract...
Read moreCan't tell from the outside, but in the inside Namaste is a well-stocked Indian grocery store. As soon as you walk into Namaste, you get hit by the wonderful aromatic spice smells. Large variety of Indian snacks and biscuits on the left side near the checkout area. Refrigerated and frozen Indian food selection. Packaged meats and poultry from a US Indian meat company. Huge bags of rice, beans, lentils, etc. An Indian beauty and personal care section. Fresh produce in the back was cheap. There was also an area in front that sold Ganesha in different sides and materials and other religious items and a Indian Kitchenware area that sold many different types of stainless steel Indian divided food trays and stainless steel bowls with lids.
Bought the fresh samosas for dinner tonight from the deli shelf selling fresh samosas ($1.25/ea) and chicken curry samosas ($2.49/ea). They were beautifully deep fried and filled with tasty potato cubes seasoned with curry, cumin, and coriander. I highly recommend buying these delicious Indian flavored samosas if you don't cook Indian at home. The only issue I have with Namaste is the hygiene and tidiness. It's not clean. Some sections were messy. Stuff was on floor on multiple aisles. It's not difficult to pick up a stray can or food box off the floor. It's a safety hazard walking up the and down the aisles if you aren't paying attention. You could easily trip...
Read moreThe worst store in the Entire BAY Area I have been living in Bay Area for several years, I am familiar with multiple stores in East Bay, South Bay and Peninsula. Based on my observation, Namaste Plaza in Belmont is the WORST Indian grocery store in the entire area. It is disorganized to being with, it is dirty, I have seen flies at the store. They stock the shelves and allies with stuff. It is impossible to walk around the store. I rarely find all items on my list. From fresh produce to Pantry and frozen the quality of the stock is below average. Its stressful to shop here as I have to keep checking the expiration dates. I don't mind traveling miles to get my Indian groceries. Outside of the organization and the quality the concept of customer service does not exist for Namaste Plaza. I wish we had a better Indian grocery store in the neighbourhood. I recommend everyone to stay away from this store and find other friendly and reliable stores in San Mateo, Foster city...
