I have to give stars just because it’s a MERMAID museum and that right there is so cool! I would recommend it, however, I think there should be a few changes. The price is way too high for one room. The peep hole displays don’t always work and it’s gross to put my face there, I can see grime from hundreds of other faces. The collection was cutesy, with the best part being the Feejee Mermaid (although apparently they prize the mermaid shaped Cheeto more). I did learn a bit, but was left feeling like I wanted more. I want to learn more mermaid lore, maybe see more of a vast collection of vintage mermaids, more mermaid art, that kind of thing. I was bothered by the display that said Opal is the mermaids favorite gem as in my opinion, it’s genuine sea glass. There’s nothing like it as there’s nothing like a mermaid, shaped by time and tide. I also was super annoyed that we can ONLY take photos in the mermaid tail tub prop. People who love mermaids will visit the museum even if, and sometimes especially because, they’ve seen photos of things there. I’d return, but honestly you’d need to really expand. Also expand that gift shop and reduce the amount of cheap imports. How about some genuine sea glass jewelry or sterling mermaid charm pieces? There are so many options and they can be handmade instead of...
Read moreLocated in Berlin, MD. Must see attraction in quaint little romantic town. Entrance fee $11.00pp, no senior or child discount, which I think was expensive. Many framed informations about mermaid sightings , a photo from movie Splash autographed by Darryl Hannah, a glass encased Merman collection , 2 pcs dried skin collected from a real mermaid that looked like pieces of crocodile skin. Also they have a black and white short film about water acrobats in the early 1900s. Luv that bathtub with that mermaid tail and the shell with pearl which you can take pictures with. There was also a treasure chest full of mermaid costumes and head crowns which I think kids and adults alike will enjoy trying them on and a Draw me A Mermaid Wall which my son enjoyed showing his expression of a mermaid. Tour on your own, but front desk person helpful if you have any questions. No bathroom inside. There were 8 of us, arrived at 345pm, out by 5pm. Next to Mermaid Museum is Atlantic Hotel where one of the scenes from Julia Robert's Run Away Bride was shot....
Read moreMy wife and I drove about 3 hours with our 5 year old for a day trip. We had a wonderful experience. Let your inner kid out and leave your disbelief at the door.
-Dress Up is A MUST! -Take a pic in the Tub. -Draw a mermaid on the wall. -Get your mermaid blessing with a fun effect. -Take in all the details and find the little surprises, which are subtle and at kid level, my 5 year old found them before we did.
Now, back to reality. -Yes it's $11 per person, which yes, may feel pricy, however, it's about a dollar less than P.T. Barnum charged people to see a mermaid (Which they have a similar "Mermaid"!) -Yes, it's not the biggest, but go into it, understanding that you are helping a local business, and there are some really cool pieces that are quite expensive. -Know your family. Will you/your kids find value in this type of experience? If yes, it's worth it.
Thanks to the Mermaid Museum for having us, my daughter left a mermaid on the wall that we will be coming back to...
