I’ll start with the positives………beautiful, clean, charming, like a Hallmark Christmas movie. Rocking chairs on the front veranda with a view of the lovely town Christmas tree and electric blankets to keep warm was exquisite.
Then it all goes downhill in a flaming dumpster fire from here. Unbeknownst to me when I checked in around 4:30pm on Saturday 12/16/23, there was a company Christmas party about to begin in the banquet room. Didn’t give it a second thought, what a great place for a party, right?
Let’s fast forward to 10pm, oh and our room was on the second floor, just above the party. People at the party are now inebriated drunk. I’m thinking, “ok, it’s 10pm, they’re probably going to wrap this thing up real soon because ya know, there are other guests staying in this hotel and the staff of the hotel have got this under control”.
Oh how very, very, scarily wrong I was! At around 11pm, with the obnoxiously drunk party still in full swing, now with live karaoke happening and the speakers turned up to maximum capacity to the point our room was vibrating. I contemplated going downstairs to ask how long this party was going to continue, as me and my 12 year old son needed to get some sleep at this point.
Since I’m in my pajamas, I call the main hotel number. I get voicemail, I call back a few minutes later, again I get a voicemail. Hmmm, maybe the front desk person can’t hear the phone ringing over the celestial voice of whoever had next on the mic for karaoke. I then decide to get dressed and walk down to the front desk. BUT WAIT, IT GETS BETTER! THERE. IS. NO. STAFF. ANYWHERE. TO. BE. FOUND. Can you imagine the hell of having to hear a drunk singing “Have A Holly Jolly Christmas” and the James Bond theme song at full blast while trying to sleep (and this is just a fraction of the singing we had to endure). This evening had now become a full blown Hallmark Christmas movie from hell.
I didn’t find out until the next morning, that there is no staff at the front desk, or anywhere in the hotel I guess, overnight! This is the most irresponsible, absolutely unhinged and WILD thing I’ve ever heard from a hotel with an active event happening where people are heavily intoxicated. Oh the liabilities are endless.
Anyways, the Atlantic Hotel was in full frat house mode until after 2am Sunday morning. Some of the people from the party came upstairs and sat in the small sitting area that was right on the other side of the wall of our room. To say I was LIVID, is an understatement. I don’t know which business these people were from, but they should be ashamed of themselves. If they wanted to take over the hotel like that, awesome, but then you need to rent out the ENTIRE hotel for your party. Don’t even get me started on how they ruined, earlier in the night, our sitting on the veranda by turning it into the drunken smoking section of their party. The Atlantic Hotel should also have staff present during an event, until the event ends, like what in the actual hell is the management of this place thinking?! You had a group of heavily intoxicated patrons runnin’ free range through the hotel with access to a karaoke system🫣
To end on a positive note, the manager I spoke to on the phone the next morning was very apologetic and did handle my complaint to my satisfaction (I did provide her with video/audio evidence of what happened so she could understand that I was in no way exaggerating the situation). If you do stay here, ask if there are any events happening that night and know that there’s no staff available overnight, and the sign on the closed and locked front desk door says to call the police in case of emergency, lord...
Read moreLet me start by saying that overall we really loved the Atlantic Hotel. It's in a great location, right in the center of downtown. Perfect for walking around etc. That said, there were a few things... We were in the Anna Suite (Rm. 28). It's on the third floor. The room itself is spacious. Has a full kitchen...like 4 burner stovetop and oven, dishwasher, full size fridge. You get the picture. And it was placed between the living room and the bedroom, making for good separation between the 2. This was a girl's weekend and my girlfriend slept on the queen sleeper sofa, which according to her is very uncomfortable. It is just a very thin mattress. I sat on it and you really could feel every spring. Be warned. The only bathroom is in the bedroom. There are 2 TVs, living room and bedroom. They are smart TVs with streaming which was a pleasant surprise. The carpet in the living room had crumbs on it that I saw as soon as I walked in. We asked the front desk to please have someone vacuum as we were heading out to walk around. I guess we expected them to do it right away but when we came back it wasn't done. In the grand scheme of things, not that big a deal. Just a little annoying. Honestly if there was a vacuum in the room I would've done it myself and not said anything. Another thing and this pertains to the hotel restaurant. We went to the bar twice for drinks. No issue whatsoever. But, on our last nite we decided to eat dinner in the restaurant. We were taken to a table right away. But then we sat at that table with not a single person approaching to say someone will be right with you, etc. Nothing. We were essentially ignored. And it wasn't that there weren't servers and runners milling about because there was. It was like we were invisible. So after about 8-10 minutes we got up and left and ate at Boxcar on Main which was great. It was stuff like that. Just little things but I wanted to point them out. Should this deter you from staying at the Atlantic Hotel?...absolutely not. I simply wanted to point them out. To me it is the only place to stay in Berlin if you're spending the nite and I'd stay...
Read moreWe booked our wedding with the Atlantic Hotel. In the 18 months that followed, they changed wedding planners three times. We were not notified of the first change. The second change came two weeks before the wedding. After meeting with wedding coordinator number three, we were told that some of the things we were promised by number one and two could not be done. We had a very small, simple wedding so nothing was over the top. I had to hire my own wedding coordinator one week prior to the wedding as so many mistakes were being made by the hotel. Less than one week prior to the wedding, one of our guests was informed that our wedding was not taking place the following weekend, Needless to say, this caused some concern. The evening before the wedding, we received an email wanting to know where we were as we had reservations for that day--as opposed to the following day. Again, this caused some concern. Certainly not what you need the day before your wedding. On the day of the wedding (in July), the air conditioning was not working in the room where we held our reception. We found this out as we were suffering from the overwhelming heat. The wedding planner/hotel manager, Angela was very difficult to work with. I had a number of complaints from vendors and guests as to how rude she was to them. We requested open bar- by consumption. We wanted no limits to our guests. The bar bill was quite large, but we knew that was a risk. Sadly, a month later we found out that some of our guests were told that their drinks were not included and were charged as well. The food was great and thanks to family and friends taking over where the hotel dropped the ball, all went well. Should you decide to have your wedding at the Atlantic Hotel, please be sure to hire your own wedding coordinator and be sure to have everything in writing. This is what saved our day from being a disaster. As for charging our guests for the alcohol that they should not have been charged for, we have asked Angela to investigate this and make it right with the guests. To date, this has...
