I attended Churchome from 2015 through 2020. I volunteered as a door greeter and assisted with the growth classes at the campus in Kirkland, WA. I also quit my full-time retail job just to get more involved.
By 2019, I started to become disillusioned and depressed. When I tried to bring my concerns to staff and volunteers I befriended, they would dismiss me without any answers given. Some concerns I had included:
Judah and Chelsea Smith being walled off from everyone at churchome and only accessible to celebrities or high-ranking staff. Teachings that are legalistic and unbiblical. Promotion of the Passion Transition ( a sectarian edit of the Bible to support N.A.R. teachings). Maintaining a system that demands money through offerings and selling books, clothing, cds, and coffee in the shop to keep the people who run it comfortable prosperous, and wealthy, like most false religions. Taking a public stand against racism while some worship leaders are tolerant of antisemitism or antisemitic conspiracies. Engaging in new age practices from yoga to the enneagram. Leaders trying so desperately to be relevant by being wishy-washy on issues.
Since leaving Churchome in 2020 just before the Covid pandemic, I’ve lost many friends. Some people have blocked me on social media, including the Churchome instagram page. So much for saying “You belong here” or “welcome home.”
So to those who are in Churchome or considering going, I can attest that Churchome preaches a gospel and a Jesus that cannot save. Bad theology hurts people and bad theology kills people.
A film that was very helpful for me when I left was American Gospel:...
Read moreYour typical concert and a Ted church, except that sermon is moving and points the heart towards Jesus and the music moves the heart to worship. Ted talk and a concert is a toxic model but at least Churchome does it right. Favorite thing about Judah is the length of the message. This is no 15 mins sermon with fancy PP presentations and videos, this man is raw, off the cuffs, and candid (yep, he’s that good! No notes). I love you Judah but please stop with the s3x life joke. At. Every. Sermon. We’re all aware of it by now. Was funny at the beginning but it’s a bit cringe now. And please consider and don’t be afraid to give messages to more mature Christians; more Pauline messages. I understand you try to target and encourage new comers but us seasoned members need to be fed denser and to be awakened out of our spiritual stupor. Thank you for brining live sermons back on...
Read moreI went through 4 pages of the church website and couldn’t find what time their weekly gatherings were or any info on it. When I clicked the weekly meeting button, it took me to their YouTube page… c’mon ppl. Get it together. Stop losing the plot. There’s nothing wrong with giving pertinent info like that up front on your landing page. Sheesh… all design and bravado...
