My father and I were visiting Boone for a week just because we could. We pass by the Local Lion very often when in town and decided to get some coffee and donuts there. When we walked in, we went to the front were the donuts were and was not offered any help about anything. Then another costumer came in and the front register guy decided to help her before us because he said that we “were busy” and that he was gonna help her first before us. My dad said we were here first so we ordered first before her. We ordered three donuts and some coffee, my father wanted light ice in his cold brew and got a full cup of ice and I basically got a caramel latte instead of a Machiatto. Then we had the donuts, they were extremely bland, had no flavor. As a barista myself, I was highly disappointed with the service, very unprofessional, and lacking in quality of items! Very...

I gave it a shot and not that it wasn't a clean and a busy place because it was, however I almost had a heart attack from my house coffee.(No I am not caffeine sensitive) Now don't get me wrong, I drink Death Wish coffee daily and I have NEVER felt like that from coffee before, or a Red Bull. I would of kept and drug tested my cup if my company hadn't convinced me to toss it. I couldn't get half way through it. I felt like I was going to puke and my head was spinning, my heart was so elevated that I was sweating profusely. It was like I was back on the coke from when I was in my early 20's. It was very concerning and I keep a close eye on my drink so I'm sure I wasn't slipped something. I won't be returning. And I will NOT be advocating to go here... Ever. My concern is this happening to someone else. That is out of...

I never had a coffee experience quite like this. My husband and little ones were driving towards the blue ridge parkway and when we saw the line at starbys our jaws dropped. I googled coffee shops and immediately swung the car around and headed towards these guys. We pulled into the drive thru and at the window we’re greeted by the sweetest woman. We told her it was our first time here and she was SO KIND. She was genuinely happy to serve us and answer any questions we had. We both got lattes and maple donuts…WOW! Like nothing I’ve ever tasted or experienced. I’m not really a starbucks person, but when I do it’s mehhh. This puts starbys in the dust. Unbelievably delicious! My new favorite place to visit in boone. Can’t wait until our next adventure out there. Every morning...

Great place for coffee and amazing, freshly made donuts. The cheerwine glazed is incredible and truly tastes like cheerwine. The local lotus is not over-baked and is moist as so many similar pastries from other places are not. Last fall they had a limited edition “Ring of Fire” donut. These guys are glazed in a strawberry/Carolina Reaper topping. I ate two of these and felt fairly confident that I could handle the mouth burn. A little sweat and a little pain was no problem. What this donut also provides is a burn in your stomach for 6-8 hours after. Probably should have stuck with one and not on an empty stomach. This was one of the few HOT items out there that the strawberry (secondary flavor) stood out. I would love to see this come back.

I graduated AppState in 2021 and came back for a visit. The Local Lion never disappoints! The staff is always wonderful, helpful, and knowledgeable. I recommend the Bee Balm, Queen Anne's Lace, and the Turtle coffees. The Maple donuts are awesome, but the Sugar and Cinnamon donuts are the best! Very fluffy and filling! The Local Lion has a very chill atmosphere, inside and out. Completely stress free. With plenty of seating and tables, it's a calm place to work and talk. The mugs are made by an Appalachian State University allumni who graduated in 2016, who was a barista here. Very impressive craftsmanship.

Stopped in upon the recommendation of a friend to try out their homemade donuts and Home roasted coffee. (FWIW, I'm a trained Barista and home espresso enthusiast of >17 yrs, & really picky about espresso.) This place was great, super cozy, slightly off the beaten path. The pricing was lower than I thought it should have been, so hat tip to them for being so modest. Their donuts can hang with the old standbys of inner city New York, definitely better than any chain. So if you want gourmet espresso based drinks and donuts in a super cozy hang out environment, make this place a destination.
